Ayam Percik Fried Kuey Teow Lunch Sets Muslim Friendly Nasi Ayam Percik Near Dataran Merdeka Near KTMB Near National Mosque old colonial house Roadside Pening Char Kuey Teow Set Lunch

Fiftig Seofan at Rumah Tangsi, Tasik Perdana, KL – Good food in a colonial house (Muslim friendly)

I have long desired to visit Rumah Tangsi; however, my visit has been repeatedly postponed. I have an appreciation for old colonial houses, and I regularly pass Rumah Tangsi during my drives to the Kuala Lumpur city centre. Its yellow exterior, set amidst greenery, evokes a nostalgic sentiment that I find appealing. With the festive season continuing a few days after Raya and the roads being relatively clear, this would be an opportune time to pay a visit to Fiftig Seofan.

** It is located opposite the road from Royal Selangor Club and a short distance away from KTMB KL Station, National Mosque and Dataran Merdeka.

** Parking was easy. There were parking spots available at Rumah Tangsi, free or charge.

Fiftig Seofan is a restaurant situated within Rumah Tangsi. This Muslim-friendly establishment provides an ideal setting for those seeking a refreshing change of scenery. I found myself in a well-lit room adorned with high wooden beams and elegant chandeliers, complemented by a piano and surrounded by exquisite paintings. The ambiance evokes a sensation reminiscent of traditional English cottages, albeit more glamorous, transporting one to another era. Although the space is relatively modest, it can accommodate various group sizes. In instances of a crowd, the atmosphere may become somewhat noisy due to overlapping conversations; however, the cozy, intimate essence of the setting remains.

Roadside Pening Char Kuey Teow

Fiftig Seofan boasts an extensive menu that encompasses breakfast and lunch main courses, light snacks, desserts, as well as a good selection of drinks. On this occasion, we chose to try their lunch sets.

The lunch set comprises a main dish accompanied by a beverage. As their bestsellers were included in the selection, we decided to sample them. The Nasi Ayam Perchik presented a hearty offering, featuring a roasted chicken leg generously coated in a rich, sweet percik sauce, along with salted egg, ulam, budu, fish crackers, and rice. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the dish was the chicken, which consisted of two pieces of meat: a portion of the thigh and the drumstick. The meat was remarkably tender and flavorful. The sweet and buttery profile of the sauce contributed to an exceptional pairing with the rice and the other components of the dish.

Despite its peculiar name, Roadside Pening Char Kuey Teow was a tasty dish. With subtle hints of ‘Char’ and a well-defined flavor profile, the dish proved to be quite enjoyable. It featured four medium-sized prawns, crab meat, taugeh, eggs, chicken, and a generous serving of noodles.

Would I consider returning to this establishment? Perhaps on rare occasions. The overall experience was indeed positive, and I have satisfied my curiosity regarding the colonial aspects of Rumah Tangsi, which I have always found intriguing. The cuisine was good as well. On a personal note, I do not intend to visit regularly for dining purposes. However, should I wish to impress friends, family, or colleagues, I will certainly keep Fiftig Seofan in mind. They would undoubtedly appreciate the ambiance and the quality of the food, just as I did.

50 minutes drive from KL Batu Caves food Cafe Kebun at Gombak Batu Caves Day Trip Drive out of town Gombak food Lunch in a rumah papan Maggi Goreng Muslim Friendly Nasi Goreng Kampung Rumah papan Something different

Cafe Kebun at Gombak, Batu Caves – Lunch in a rumah papan, away from town (Muslim friendly)

This brief break/holiday for the Chinese New Year provided an excellent opportunity to visit Cafe Kebun. I sought a change of scenery, and there could be no better way to achieve this than by taking a 45-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur to enjoy lunch in a traditional ‘rumah papan’ enveloped by greenery. Notably, the cafe is situated within a cemetery—Tanah Perkuburan Islam Taman Seri Gombak. However, there is no cause for concern, as the dining area is not located in close proximity to the cemetery. The property is large and extensive; one can find the cemetery in one corner, while the cafe occupies another, along with several other enterprises, including agricultural and farming activities. Although some areas of the terrain are somewhat uneven, this characteristic contributes to the overall charm of the location. Ample parking is available at no cost.

Cafe Kebun is fundamentally a ‘rumah papan’, characterized as a spacious and meticulously maintained structure. Enveloped by verdant greenery, it undoubtedly exudes a homely ambiance. The house features an open concept design, allowing natural air and light to permeate from all directions, evoking a dining experience reminiscent of traditional ‘kampung’ style. It was a delightful experience. In the back, they a ‘kebun’—if I am not mistaken. Guests may take a brief stroll around the area, should they wish to do so.

Menu

We visited with the intention of trying their traditional dishes, such as Ayam Masak Belado and Goreng Kunyit. The restaurant provides four types of meat options: chicken, beef, mutton, and turkey. Unfortunately, on the day of our visit, chicken was unavailable. This posed a challenge, as one of my friends cannot consume beef, while the other cannot eat lamb due to cholesterol concerns. In this situation, rather than walk-in, it would have been important to call ahead and make a reservation. Had I done so, I would have been informed of the types of meat available that day. Consequently, our oversight resulted in our inability to try the popular dishes at Cafe Kebun.

Nasi Goreng Spicy Kampung, RM 10 + Maggi Goreng, RM 13

Nasi Goreng Spicy Kampung
Maggi Goreng

After careful consideration of our options, we decided to try the fried rice and noodles. The Nasi Goreng Spicy Kampung proved to be unexpectedly delightful. Cafe Kebun pays attention to the presentation of their dishes, which I found appealing. This enhances the overall dining experience. In terms of flavor, the dish was exquisite. Contrary to what its name suggests, customers are permitted to select their preferred level of spiciness. I chose the spicy option, which was executed well; it was not overpowering, yet it delivered an appropriate degree of heat in every bite. The dish was generously accompanied by boneless chicken, along with crunchy, crispy anchovies, chili, kangkung, and more. I would gladly consider ordering this dish again.

The Fried Maggi too was good. It tasted to my liking and included taugeh, chicken, carrot and more. As I had the option to add on an egg at an additional cost of RM 2, I did so and it was a good addition to the noodles. Overall, a tasty dish but between the fried noodle and rice, I prefer the Nasi Goreng Kampung.

Cafe Kebun serves as a good destination for individuals seeking a brief escape from the fast pace of urban life. I would not mind revisiting this eatery; however, on my next visit, I shall ensure to contact them in advance to secure a reservation and inquire about the selection of available meats.

Aesthetically pleasing Bagel Bagel sandwich Cafe in a house Cincalok Chicken Bagel Rice Bowl Tikka Chicken Rice bowl

YunShu Coffee at Taman United, Kuala Lumpur – A modern cafe in a house

This was another case of a serendipitous discovery. Our original destination for lunch brought us to the vicinity, but while searching for a parking spot, we unexpectedly stumbled upon this charming cafe. Situated in Taman United, in close proximity to Pearl Point Shopping Mall along Old Klang Road, this eatery stands out due to its location within a row of terrace houses, providing a unique atmosphere akin to a cafe within a home.

I appreciated the preservation of the traditional exterior coupled with the contemporary interior. Upon entering, one is pleasantly surprised by the unexpected contrast with the exterior. The soft pink peach walls exude a calming and visually soothing effect.

Cincalok Chicken Bagel
Tikka Chicken Rice Bowl

This establishment provides a fine array of bagels for enthusiasts. Our choice was the Cincalok Chicken Bagel, which featured a savory filling of crispy boneless chicken. The inclusion of kimchi contributed an intriguing flavor to the dish as a whole. The plain bagel boasted a soft yet dense texture, imparting a delightful pillowy quality to every bite.

The Tikka Chicken Ricebowl comprises thinly sliced chicken breast enveloped in a rich homemade tikka sauce, accompanied by onsen egg and vegetables. Once given a good mix, the dish proves to be delicious and satisfying.

All in all, the visit to Yunshu Coffee proved to be quite pleasant. We appreciated the aesthetic appeal of the café as well as the the food they offered. Should I find myself in the vicinity once more, I would consider returning.

Chicken Ham Banh Mi Houjicha Panna Cotta Hua Xin Dessert Malaysia's first food mall Miss Ao Dai More than 20 restaurants New cafe PJ 2024 February Pandan Green Jelly with Mochi Ball Raku Matcha Seksyen 19 PJ food Tong Sui Vietnamese

New Ocean World Fine Food City at Seksyen 19, Petaling Jaya – A whole building dedicated to food 😱

The newly opened New Ocean World Fine Food City stands as Malaysia’s first ever lifestyle food mall. With an entire building exclusively devoted to providing a comprehensive gastronomic experience, foodies can anticipate a diverse range of culinary options here. Boasting over 20 restaurants offering Vietnamese, Greek, Thai, Mongolian cuisines, and more, customers will certainly be spoilt for choice.

As we arrived at New Ocean following a hearthy lunch session elsewhere, we found ourselves with mostly a full stomach. As a result, we decided to sample some light bites and desserts here. The dining establishments at this venue are spread across several floors but for the purpose of this visit, we only explored Ground floor, where a number of dessert cafes were situated.

** For more information regarding the other restaurants in this building, kindly visit their website : https://newoceanworld.com/directory

Hua Xin Desserts

Hua Xin Desserts will officially be open from February 18th onwards. However, if you find youself taking a stroll and ending up at the eatery before that date, you are welcome to visit Hua Xin and indulge in their hot and/or cold desserts. Even though the official opening has not yet taken place, the establishment is fully operational and ready to serve.

** This is their Soft Launch Menu. They will be adding more items to it once they officially opened.

Pandan Jelly Noodle with Mochi Ball Lao, RM15

The Pandan Jelly Noodle with Mochi Ball Lao is a delightful and refreshing dessert, best savored on a warm day. This chilled dessert features milk accompanied by a generous serving of sago, miniature mochi balls, and pandan jelly. The pandan flavor is derived from real pandan extracts, imparting a more subtle yet distinct taste. Instead of traditional glutinous rice balls, mochi balls are utilized, providing a chewier texture and a unique twist. Overall, this dessert was enjoyable.

Raku Matcha

With a clear focus on matcha, houjicha, and genmaicha, this establishment offers a variety of tea-infused items, including desserts such as jelly, panna cotta, and waffles. The influence of tea is prevalent throughout both the beverage and dessert offerings here.

Houjicha Panna Cotta, RM 10

The panna cotta at this establishment exhibited a thicker, more gelatinous consistency, differing slightly in texture from other panna cottas I have had, yet I found it appealing. Inclusion of red bean filling and the distinct flavor of houjicha added to my enjoyment. The denser texture surprisingly complemented the overall flavor profile. This was my first time trying Houjicha Panna Cotta, it was an experience that I found to be nice.

Miss Ao Dai

If you like Vietnamese cuisine or appreciate visually striking, vibrant pink interiors, Miss Ao Dai is the ideal spot for you. You can be confident that you will experience authenticity, as they prepare their signature coffee and food using traditional Vietnamese recipes.

Chicken Banh Mi, RM 15

The Banh Mi was yummy. The bread possessed a light and airy texture without being flaky, maintaining its structural integrity admirably. The filling comprised of seasoned, thinly sliced chicken ham combined with onions and carrots, generously drizzled with sauce. This dish was delightful to savor, with the combination of bread texture and overall flavor profile of the Banh Mi.

All in all, my experience at this establishment was positive. Each dish I sampled proved to be favorable. Given the presence of other restaurants I have yet to visit in this building, I am certain that I will return to New Ocean World Fine Food City in the near future.

Cafe in a park Dessert Free parking Greens Hidden Mutton Masala Nature New 2022: Feb Next to IKEA Damansara Orange Chocolate Tart Park 28 Pork Free Portuguese Baked Fish Set Lunch Something different

Park 28 at Mutiara Damansara – A hidden gem (Pork free)

Park 28 is a hidden gem. I’ve driven passed this particular busy road sooo many times, yet I had no idea Park 28 existed 😱😱. Opened since February this year, it is located within the Mutiara Damansara Recreational Park (next to IKEA Damansara). Entrance is by the roadside, easily accessible. This establishment exudes an air of fancyness with its country club feel, aesthetically pleasing too. If you are one of those who is an avid social media user, love taking photos and videos of anything visually pleasant, Park 28 will suit you just fine.

Parking: Plenty of parking available. As soon as you turn into the vicinity of Park 28, you’d be able to easily locate the designated area for parking, at no cost. Free of charge.

Park 28 has both indoor and outdoor seating. Just to experience both, I had lunch indoor and dessert outdoor. If you do visit on a day that isn’t raining, do sit outside. There is something appealing about being out in the greens and it is an awesome feeling being surrounded by it. Whether you visit on your own or with a large group of people, you most definitely will find a suitable spot here.

Menu

Set Lunch: Mutton Masala, RM 22.90 + Portuguese Baked Fish Fillet, RM 18.90

Since we dropped by within the 12 pm – 2 pm window, we opted to give their Set Lunch a try. Both dishes were certainly affordably priced and it included a bowl of soup as well as a glass of Iced Lemon Tea.

Mushroom Soup and Iced Lemon Tea
Mutton Masala
Portuguese Baked Fish

The soup and drinks arrived first, as it rightfully should. Soup of the day was the Campbell’s Mushroom Soup while Drink of the day was Iced Lemon Tea.

Less than 10 minutes later, our main dishes arrived. Food was good. The Mutton Masala was packed with plenty of flavors. I love the fact that it did not have the distinct, lingering aftertaste that usually accompanies this particular type of meat. The gravy was somewhat spicy and was awesome to eat with the rice.

The Portuguese Baked Fish Fillet was delicious too. It was cooked in Asam/Asam Pedas style. Boneless, tender fish with flavorful gravy and okra that was perfect to eat with the white rice that accompanied the fish.

Orange Chocolate Tart, RM10.90

Since we had a little more space in our tummies for dessert, we decided to share this tart. The Orange Chocolate Tart was decadent and appealingly bitter-ish. It had a good equilibrium between sweet and bitter, the kind you’d get from dark chocolate. I usually am not a fan of dark chocolate but the mix of chocolate and orange was rather appealing here. I liked it. It had a perfect balance of flavors.

The tart was a good end to my visit to Park 28. Would I head back here? I would. I regularly have meetings in the area and Park 28 would provide a good setting to have some of those get-together.

Cafe in a house Cheese Brownie desserts Nasi Lemak Nasi Lemak Chicken Kapitan New 2021 Pasta Pesto Pasta Pork Free Taman Tasik Titiwangsa

Kalico Cafe at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa – Cafe in a house 😍😍

I’ve always enjoyed going around town to discover and try out new restaurants. I especially like them if they are hidden and/or offers me something different. Kalico Cafe provided me with both. It was hidden in plain sight and as the heading states, it is literally a cafe in a house. Located along Jalan Chan Chin Mooi, nestled among some pretty large houses, is house number 8 – Kalico Cafe. There was no large signage to indicate its existence and as I was not familiar with the area, it was highly likely that I would have simply driven past it unknowingly if it was not for Waze. Waze and the fact that this particular house had a large number of cars parked around it made me notice house number 8.

Oooo yeaaaa, I liked how it looked. A large house that was well spaced out. It opened up into a few sections that was all connected. As soon as you enter, you would notice the counter and the seating area. I’d refer to this seating area as the common area, where most people choose to sit. The common area is connected to another section of the house that provides a more private setting. Where the common area can accommodate both small and larger crowds and groups of people, this area caters to smaller group of people, with fewer number of tables. We ended up sitting here simply because we had the space all to ourselves and there was a sense of privacy. Perfect for a short catch up session.

Menu

Nasi Lemak Chicken Kapitan, RM 19 + Chicken Pesto Pasta, RM 20

I enjoyed the pesto pasta. I liked the texture as well as its taste. The pasta was not too creamy and wet, it had the right amount of denseness, the taste of pesto was evident. The cashew nuts and pan seared chicken breast was a perfect addition. Yea, a good dish it was.

The Nasi Lemak Chicken Kapitan was yummy too. I liked that they retained the traditional aspect of it as oppose to modenizing it like some cafes do. The first thing that hits you would be the fragrant aroma of the ‘santan’ rice. Ooooo yum. As soon as you bite into it, you’d certainly taste it too. Add in the flavorful Nyonya style Chicken Kapitan that came with plenty of gravy, potatoes and several pieces of boneless chicken … it certainly made up one tasty plate of nasi lemak. Burp!

Cheese Brownie with Ice Cream, RM 11

I decided to end my visit here with dessert. After weighing in my options, I decided to go with a slice of brownie. This was simply because I was almost full after the pesto pasta and yet, was in need of a little sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth. The brownie itself was RM 9 and with an additional RM 2, I get a scoop of ice cream. Why not, right? I enjoyed the dessert. It was not too heavy on the tummy and it was not overwhelmingly sweet. Vanilla ice cream on cheese brownie, a yummy combination. My sweet tooth was satisfy … for now 😈😈

Would I head back here? I’d love too. Kalico Coffee certainly is a nice place to ‘lepak’ at, food was tasty too. I can see myself seated at a quiet corner, having lunch while getting some work done on my laptop. Yesssss.

Ampang Famous Curry Buns KL no dine in Open Daily Pork Curry Bun Something different ? takeaways only XL size

William Jumbo Bun at Ampang – Yummy curry bun 😍😍

I recently saw a post on William Jumbo Bun (WJB) making the rounds on social media. This neighborhood bakery is known for their large curry filled buns. Chicken curry, mutton curry, fish curry, pork curry … it is all available here. It has been on my ‘restaurants to visit’ list for a while now and since I had a meeting in the area today, it was a good time to visit WJB.

Unlike other visits, for some reason I did not do a quick research on this eatery prior to dropping by. If I did, I would know that WJB is NOT located in a proper shop anymore. Perhaps due to the pandemic, they needed a more affordable location to rent nearby and have since moved to a house. Whatever image you see online of a shoplot with a proper signage is not applicable anymore. They have moved.

If you are not familiar with the area, best use WAZE. As much as it may seem like perhaps the location is wrongly tagged, it is not. It will lead you right to it. Once you are there, do look out for house number 1111A. There is no signboard or any other signs to indicate that William Jumbo Bun is located there. So, keep your eyes open.

There is NO DINING IN, only takeaway and delivery. I was not aware of this either and got dressed up for nothing, lol. I did not call ahead to order and so, by the time I arrived at 12.30 pm, there was only one bun left. It was suggested to me that for my next visit, best call ahead to order, a day before preferably. Since I did not do so, my only option was whatever that was left, which in this case was the Pork Curry Bun. I was soooooo looking forward to their chicken curry option but pork curry it is.

Pork Curry Bun, RM 38

This sure was an XXL sized bun, meant for at least three pax. The size took us by surprise. Sure, we’ve seen the pictures and videos, we do know that we would be served a large bun but I personally did not anticipate it to be this big. Big and cute. Sooooo cute that I felt a tad bad for having to rip it apart to get inside.

As you start tearing into it, you would find the gravy wrapped in plastic. The first 5 seconds would seem a bit anticlimatic because up to that point, you are all hyped up to get right into it, get all messy but then, you come across this layer of plastic that is preventing the very mess you anticipated. Whaaattttttt???? After those 5 seconds though, your brain catches up and you’d realize that this is a good thing. No mess is a good thing, especially for those of us eating in the car.

Once you open up the plastic layer and the delicious aroma of the pork curry hits your nosebuds, it will get your tummy rumbling for sure. Tearing off a piece of bread and dunking it into the tasty gravy was awesome. The best way to enjoy it is to dunk it all in and leave it be for a while, give it time to soak the curry up and then enjoy.

It was delicious, really tasty. I liked it very much. Plain dense bun with thick, flavorful pork curry gravy. Yummm! The gravy also came with a few pieces of potatoes and pork meat. It may seem simple but it sure does fill you up. Burp! Burpppppp!

Would I return to WJB ? Yes, I look forward to trying their Chicken Curry Bun. Remember folks, if you are interested in the large buns here, do place your order the day before by calling the number provided below.

Good vegetarian food Good vegetarian food in PJ Halal Nyonya Curry Mee Pizza Sandwich Tempeh Tempeh sandwich Vegetarian Vegetarian cafe/Library Veggie +

M’Laboori @ SS2, PJ – Good food 👌

We ‘bungkus’ lunch from this cafe today. If you guys like ‘Mamak’ food and hang out often in SS2, chances are that you’ve been to Murni. The same folks that run that restaurant also runs M’Laboori. The similarity ends there I suppose. This cafe is all about vegetarian food and it also serves as a library.

Menu

Veggie +, RM 12

Ooooo man, this was one good pizza. It was light, thin crusted and came with plenty of toppings. Lots of mozzarella cheese, broccoli, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, eggplants and olive. It was a delicious dish. The pizza was shared between the 3 of us, each of us 2 slices. Despite eating those, it felt like it was hardly enough. Next time I am going to order one box, all for me, myself and I. No sharing 😊

Tempeh Bro +, RM 12

The Tempeh Bro + is their most popular sandwich. You’d get bread with cheese spread + bits of tempeh + some sort of flavorful paste + petai + tomatoes. It certainly was a unique sandwich. Not the usual combination you’d see regularly. To me, the sandwich as a whole tasted good. However, as I very rarely eat tempeh, I cant comment on the tempeh specifically. That is for you to decide.

Nyonya Curry Mee, RM 9.90

The Nyonya Curry Mee was very good. It certainly exceeded our expectation. The gravy was tasty and well flavored, all of us enjoyed slurping it on its own. Initially, prior to pouring the curry in, you can see the bowl, it consisted of noodles, long beans and eggplants. With the curry, there was about 6 tofu and a few pieces of vegetarian chicken. Once you mix it all together and start eating, it is da’ bomb.

Overall, all the dishes we ordered were yummy. I would like to drop by for a revisit and give their other items a try.

Greens Hidden Instagrammable Open Daily Pasta Sambal Petai Fried Rice Soft Shell Crab Carbonara Wine

The Curiousity Iron River at Sg. Besi – Curious indeed.

This eatery is what I’d call an organized mess. There are sooo many things everywhere, every direction you turn. All kinds of things all under one roof that its unlikely that you’d be able to connect it to just one single theme. There are antiques, there is a random drum set halfway up the wall, a little gothic, definitely old school, a part of it looks like a perfect setting to direct a horror movie, another part looks like it could pass off as one of those old Chinese coffeeshops, pre WW II.. the only thing missing was Chinese opera music, lol. I honestly dont know what to call it except for an organized mess, on the inside atleast. The outside, is all green, with chickens and random birds moving about. It is calm, soothing.

In regards to its name – The Curiousity Iron River … I think I figured it out. Your “Curiousity” will certainly be piqued and tickled when you visit this eatery. You simply cant make sense of it. As for the “Iron River”, it is a literal translation of where it is located, Sg. BESI = Iron River. Malay to English.

HOW TO GET HERE?? If you are not familiar with the area, I’d recommend using Google Maps. Not Waze but Google Maps. Why? On Waze, while the location is tagged properly, the road it connects you to somehow cant compute the back alleys, which is where this eatery is located on. Google Maps will lead you right to it. In a way, I’d say that this is a hidden cafe. It is certainly not one of those eateries where you driveby and see/notice it on the way. This is located in a back alley that most of us often overlook. Unless you are familiar with the area, you would not come across The Curiousity Iron River. So, yup. It is hidden.

The Outside

The Inside

An organized mess, right? Told ya.

Menu

As for the food, it is pricey. This is also a Wine Bar in some ways, it perhaps would explain the high price point. It is affordable to a seleect group of people, I suppose. While this eatery may look like one of those crowd favorite ol’ school cafes and restaurants in Petaling Street area, it is not as conveniently located nor as affordable.

Sambal Petai Fried Rice, RM 28 + Soft Shell Crab Carbonara, RM 38

Good thing is that there is no Service Tax here. However, considering that the dishes are pricey to begin with, there was no sigh of relief from me as I ended up forking out RM 66 for 2 dishes.

The Fried Rice was nice, tasted as it should. There were lots of petai, egg, prawns. It tasted similar to a plate of Belacan Fried Rice I’ve had elsewhere. Besides a large portion of fried rice, you’d get some keropok on the side, as well as some greens and a bullseye. I would not mind giving it another go.

This dish I did not like and I think paying RM 38 for it was a little too much. I do understand that whenever soft shell crabs are involved, there usually is an increased in price, fair enough. I’ve had soft shell crab burger at some of the cafes here and it usually cost the highest among all burgers served there. With this pasta dish, the carbonara was very ordinary. There was pasta with some watery cream sauce, mushrooms and parley. It was rather basic as carbonara should be but something was lacking tastewise. The crab certainly tasted better, it was well seasoned and was nice enough to eat on its own. I honestly do not think this dish is worth RM 38 but the rather pricey menu is how it is here and so, consistent with that, you can expect to spend more $$$ than you’d anticipated here.

All in all, minus the pricey menu, everything else was good. I especially like the ambiance and the fascinating clutter, mess. I like that every corner I turn, there is something to see. There apparently is a second floor to this eatery. I did not head up as I did not have the time. Maybe you guys could, if you do visit and fill me in on what I missed, yeah?

Ayam Perchik Fried Rice Perchik Chicken Rice Petai Fried Rice Pork Free Something different ?

Haus 7 @ Batu 14, Puchong – Something different? (Pork Free)

After a long and tiring week at work, I was in desperate need for a change of scenery. I needed a breather. So, I decided to head out of the city for lunch. Specifically, about 30 minutes away from PJ, into Batu 14, Puchong. I do not think I’ve ventured into this particular side before but it provided me exactly what I was looking for – a change of scenery.

The area itself is more laid back. Sure, cars are everywhere and all but this gives you more ‘kampung’ vibe as oppose to city vibe. It is a little old school. There are several ‘rumah papan’ here and in the midst of that is Haus 7.

Parking: Ample space available. Haus 7 shares the space with 2 other houses and in the middle of it is an empty space big enough for about 10 – 12 cars to park. 👇👇👇 or some folks just end up parking opposite the road.

20200821_133945

PSX_20200829_093945PSX_20200829_093735PSX_20200829_093845PSX_20200829_093914PSX_20200829_093806

I like Haus 7. If I were to open a restaurant, I’d like it to be something like this. Located in the outskirts of town, away from the city, it oozes calmness. Small, cosy and surrounded by greens. As it is located almost by the road side, you’d be able to hear the traffic. Surprisingly, it did not come across as sound pollution or an irritant. Rather soothing actually.

Customer service was great. They were friendly and attentive. Depending on how packed Haus 7 gets, food may arrive a little late, such was the case with us. I did not mind the wait though, 15-20 minutes did not seem that long as I was busy talking away and enjoying the scenery. They also did apologize profusely. So, it was all good.

Food was good, worth the wait. The Petai Fried Rice came with lots of petai. Yay! I love it but I usually stay away from them because I almost always end up producing really smelly farts but considering I was done for the day with work – eff itlah. The dish was simple, the fried rice was a bit on the spicier side, tasty nonetheless with lots of petai and shrimp, with a side of fried egg and cucumber, tomatoes. Me like.

The Perchik Chicken Rice was yummy too. When it first arrived at my table, the aroma of the perchik sauce was very similar to the chili paste that usually accompanies chicken rice … and so, I was all “huh, that’s different.” However, as I tasted it, it was perchik sauce, thick and sweet. Perchik chicken are usually grilled but if I am not mistaken, perhaps it is lightly fried here? Besides a slight difference in texture, everything else was the same. It was overall a yummy dish.
