I have long desired to visit Rumah Tangsi; however, my visit has been repeatedly postponed. I have an appreciation for old colonial houses, and I regularly pass Rumah Tangsi during my drives to the Kuala Lumpur city centre. Its yellow exterior, set amidst greenery, evokes a nostalgic sentiment that I find appealing. With the festive season continuing a few days after Raya and the roads being relatively clear, this would be an opportune time to pay a visit to Fiftig Seofan.
** It is located opposite the road from Royal Selangor Club and a short distance away from KTMB KL Station, National Mosque and Dataran Merdeka.
** Parking was easy. There were parking spots available at Rumah Tangsi, free or charge.

Fiftig Seofan is a restaurant situated within Rumah Tangsi. This Muslim-friendly establishment provides an ideal setting for those seeking a refreshing change of scenery. I found myself in a well-lit room adorned with high wooden beams and elegant chandeliers, complemented by a piano and surrounded by exquisite paintings. The ambiance evokes a sensation reminiscent of traditional English cottages, albeit more glamorous, transporting one to another era. Although the space is relatively modest, it can accommodate various group sizes. In instances of a crowd, the atmosphere may become somewhat noisy due to overlapping conversations; however, the cozy, intimate essence of the setting remains.

Lunch Sets: Nasi Ayam Percik with Drink, RM 27 and Roadside Pening Char Kuey Teow with Drink, RM 27

Fiftig Seofan boasts an extensive menu that encompasses breakfast and lunch main courses, light snacks, desserts, as well as a good selection of drinks. On this occasion, we chose to try their lunch sets.
The lunch set comprises a main dish accompanied by a beverage. As their bestsellers were included in the selection, we decided to sample them. The Nasi Ayam Perchik presented a hearty offering, featuring a roasted chicken leg generously coated in a rich, sweet percik sauce, along with salted egg, ulam, budu, fish crackers, and rice. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the dish was the chicken, which consisted of two pieces of meat: a portion of the thigh and the drumstick. The meat was remarkably tender and flavorful. The sweet and buttery profile of the sauce contributed to an exceptional pairing with the rice and the other components of the dish.
Despite its peculiar name, Roadside Pening Char Kuey Teow was a tasty dish. With subtle hints of ‘Char’ and a well-defined flavor profile, the dish proved to be quite enjoyable. It featured four medium-sized prawns, crab meat, taugeh, eggs, chicken, and a generous serving of noodles.
Would I consider returning to this establishment? Perhaps on rare occasions. The overall experience was indeed positive, and I have satisfied my curiosity regarding the colonial aspects of Rumah Tangsi, which I have always found intriguing. The cuisine was good as well. On a personal note, I do not intend to visit regularly for dining purposes. However, should I wish to impress friends, family, or colleagues, I will certainly keep Fiftig Seofan in mind. They would undoubtedly appreciate the ambiance and the quality of the food, just as I did.
