Surface Resto at Ara Damansara – Tasty, large portion dishes with affordable price (pork free)

Surface Resto is a restaurant that specializes in offering delectable dishes from Asian and Western cuisine, beautifully enriched with a hint of Indian influence. Strategically nestled in close proximity to the popular Oasis Ara Damansara, this dining establishment has been in operation since October of this year.

Parking: Easy. There are several parking spots available just outside the restaurant. In the event that they are occupied, parking along the road is also an option. Surface Resto is situated on the Ground floor, in the Clubhouse of Bungaraya Condominium. Fortunately, the clubhouse is located next to the condominium, so there is no need to enter the premises of the condominium itself.

The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor area.

Menu

I appreciate the diverse range of culinary choices offered by this establishment. Their menu showcases an extensive selection of dishes that have gained popularity among Malaysians. In addition to catering to local and Asian palates, they also provide Western cuisine options. What particularly captured my interest was the Indian flavors incorporated into certain dishes.

The restaurant aims to unite genuine dishes from Asian and Western cultures while embracing forthcoming food trends. It harmonizes the opulence of both culinary traditions in a contemporary, rustic, and relaxed ambiance. Drawing inspiration from Executive Chef Gopi’s commitment to sharing his culinary expertise gained from more than two decades in the food and beverage industry, the restaurant presents a varied menu, thereby creating a vibrant and delectable dining experience.

Tandoori Hawaiian Chicken Burger, RM 23.90

Oooo, this burger was delicious, I loved it. I am used to the usual Hawaiian Chicken Burger but adding in Tandoori into the mix, simply heavenly. The burger consisted of soft and buttery Brioche buns with caramelized pineapple and cheddar cheese. Biting into the burger, one can immediately taste the distinct taste of tandoori, thanks to the boneless, tender tandoori chicken patty. This was one delicious burger and it comes with a side of fries.

Kam Heong Fried Rice, RM 26.90

This fried rice is a favorite among their clientele and is an ideal choice for aficionados of the Kam Heong flavor. Every bite is infused with its distinct taste, making it a truly satisfying dish. The generous portion of flavorful rice is accompanied by succulent soft shell crab, adding to its appeal. Additionally, the dish is complemented with a side of brinjal sambal and crackers. The intensity of the flavors is truly captivating, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Nasi Lemak Goreng, RM 21.90

The Nasi Lemak Goreng, by itself, would have been considered a decent dish. However, the inclusion of the Ayam Goreng Berempah truly elevated the overall experience. At first glance, one can notice the abundant presence of spices in the dish, and indeed, it was authentically ‘berempah’. The boneless chicken was exceptionally tender and succulent, bursting with flavor. The combination of all the components resulted in a delightful culinary creation.

Prawn Curry Laksa, RM 25.90

This was the dish that stood out among the four I tried. While all of them were delicious, this one was my favorite, primarily due to my appreciation for Curry Laksa. The gravy itself had a rich consistency and was bursting with flavors. I found great pleasure in savoring each sip. The dish featured yellow noodles with tiger prawns, tofu, eggplant, bean sprouts, and egg. It is undoubtedly a dish worth sampling, especially if you are an avid fan of curry laksa.

It was a delightful experience at Surface Resto. Trying out some of their popular dishes was truly gratifying. All four dishes were delectable and served in ample portions. Would I consider revisiting this establishment? Absolutely, I certainly would.

** Surface Resto can also be transformed into an event space, offering inclusive food services in a buffet-style setting. If you are interested in organizing an event at their establishment, please do not hesitate to contact them.

Affordably priced good food Brined and Marinated Char Grilled Pork Chop Chicken Chop ERNIE at Taman Mayang Good Hainanese Chicken Chop Large portion Open Daily Pasta Sinful Aglio Olio

ERNIE Western Food at Sum Sum Restaurant, Taman Mayang, PJ – Still is the best Hainanese Chicken Chop in the area

There used to be a restaurant in Block A, Happy Mansion, Seksyen 17, PJ named Ernie Mansion – https://thefoodbunny.com/2022/10/11/ernie-mansion-at-happy-mansion-section-17-pj-best-chicken-chop-in-the-area-%f0%9f%98%8d%f0%9f%98%8d/ . This eatery serves one of the best Hainanese Chicken Chops I’ve tasted in a long while. I can recall feeling thoroughly satisfied the last time I was there. Just as I was about to pay them another visit, sadly however, as of a few months ago, it closed down. Haiyaaaaaaaaa.

Guess what though, they popped up back again this month. Yay! Glad to know that it was not the end of ERNIE when they shut their doors at Happy Mansion. This time however, rather than a full fledge restaurant, they decided to open up a stall in Sum Sum Restaurant at Taman Mayang, Petaling Jaya.

Meet the bossman himself, Mr. Ernie …

For someone who has been in the F&B industry since he was 17, he was extremely humble and friendly. Despite being a graduate of the notable culinary school, Le Cordon Bleu, there was not even an ounce of arrogance and superiority in the man. Any questions asked, he was more than willing to answer them. A likeable man indeed.

He mentioned several times that for him, food served at ERNIE’s should reflect quality over quantity. He does not believe in cutting corners and it shows. Good food is guaranteed here. Good cafe standard food at affordable price point.

Menu

For now, these are the dishes they offer. Ernie is working on adding more dishes to the Menu. With time, one can expect dishes like Fish & Chips as well as Salted Egg Prawn Spaghetti.

Sinful Aglio Olio, RM 13

This dish sure was sinful, alright. For a dish worth RM 13, this came in a large portion size. Larger than what I expected. The ingredients too were generous. Besides the spaghetti, it came with lots of minced meat, crispy pork lard and chinese sausage.

It tasted even better than some of the pasta I’ve at at cafes in KL. The cheaper price point does not hurt either. It is worth a try.

Hainanese Chicken Chop, RM 18

This was one of my favorite dishes at Ernie Mansion and I was so glad to see it still available being served here. It sure is bound to be a best seller. Upon eating it, I am happy to say that it still tasted exactly the same.

I usually keep away from eating chicken skin but here, I couldn’t resist. There is something in their batter mix that reels me in and keeps me coming back for more. I love the taste. Texturewise, it was crunchy. Biting into it, the mix of flavors between the skin and meat was a delicious combination.

I can positively eat the whole dish myself without needing any sauce whatsoever. The dish however includes tomato sauce with vegetable cubes and Ernie’s own homemade hot sauce which had a tomato base with a good dose of chili and black pepper. In addition, there also was potato wedges, coleslaw. Yet another dish worth ordering if you are in the mood for chicken chop.

Char Grilled Pork Chop, RM 18

This pork chop was brined in salt water solution for 3 days and marinated for 2 day. The effects of these processes was reflective in the pork that was served to us. The meat was tender and juicy, just how I liked it. It tasted great too, no sauces was necessary to add flavor. The pork chop was good enough to eat on its own. However, if you do need to dip the meat in something, there is the homemade sauce in addition to a white dip with a slight tangy taste. The dish also included spiced fries and coleslaw.

Homemade Hot Sauce, RM 10

If you really liked Ernie’s homemade hot sauce, you can now purchases it for RM 10. As mentioned before, it has a tomato base and a good mix of chilli and black pepper. It was a slightly thickened sauce that was flavorful, with spicyness.

All in all, it was an awesome visit to ERNIE. Food tasted as good as it used to be. All dishes we tried were tasty and worth a return. I look forward to dropping by again for another visit. Thanks for having us, Ernie 🙂
