Dry Pan Mee Good food in Seksyen 14 PJ Good Nyonya food in PJ Kuih Lapis Nasi Lemak New 2025 : Oct New restaurant PJ 2025 Oct Nyonya Nyonya cuisine Nyonya Kuih Pan Mee Pork Free Seksyen 14 PJ food

Aneka Nyonya Kuih at Seksyen 14, Petaling Jaya – Nasi Lemak, Nyonya kuih and more (Pork free)

Following a recent article published by The Edge regarding this establishment, I chose to dine at Aneka Nyonya Kuih for lunch. Located within a row of shops in Seksyen 14 of Petaling Jaya, commonly referred to as ‘Jalan 222’, this newly established restaurant, which has been in operation for more than one month, is rapidly gaining popularity among the residents in the neighborhood. As a fan of Nyonya cuisine, particularly the ‘kuih-miuh’, I was pleased to discover that they offer a good selection, mostly priced at RM 1.90 per piece.

Menu

Kuih Lapis, RM 1.90 + Kuih Angku, RM 1.90 + Nasi Lemak Bungkus, RM3.90

Kuih Angku (left), Kuih Lapis (right)
Nasi Lemak

Both kuih I selected were among my childhood favorites and have remained so throughout my adulthood. The Angku kuih featured a generous portion of green bean paste, ensuring that I experienced the filling in each bite. It was one of the establishment’s bestsellers, as by the time I returned for a second piece within 30 minutes, it was sold out. As for the Kuih Lapis, this particular layered dessert consisted of a base of pulut in the lower half, complemented by a pandan-infused green layer of stickiness on the top. It was not overly sweet, and each bite was thoroughly enjoyable.

There were two options available for Nasi Lemak: one being the cheaper, traditional variant served wrapped in a banana leaf, and the other, a pricier option presented on a plate that includes a piece of fried chicken thigh. I chose the ‘bungkus’ version due to my preference for the simplicity of flavors and visual associated with this particular option. The act of unwrapping the dish was fun, revealing the rice accompanied by sambal, half a boiled egg, a few peanuts, and crunchy anchovies. While sambals typically exhibit either a spicy or sweet profile, this particular sambal was somewhat neutral, offering instead a pleasant zesty flavor. I would have preferred it to be slightly spicier, although that is a matter of personal taste. Overall, I liked this Nasi Lemak Bungkus and would gladly consider ordering it again.

Pan Mee Kicap Ayam, RM 15.90

Between Fried Mee Hoon and Pan Mee, we chose the latter. The dish proved to be quite enjoyable. As an individual who consumes pork, I typically find the non-halal version to be better. Nevertheless, this chicken version was nice. The noodles, accompanied by minced chicken, fried anchovies, and mushrooms, offered a satisfying experience. I did not feel the absence of pork lard however, if given a choice, I will likely still go for what I am familiar with – the minced pork version. The dish also included a side of spinach soup and sambal.

Matcha Lemonade New cafe PJ 2024 Oct Nyonya Kuih Paramount Garden Pork Rendang Nasi Lemak Taman Paramount Taman Paramount food

Pastea Cafe at Taman Paramount, PJ – Pork Rendang Nasi Lemak, anyone?

There is a new addition to the food and beverage scene of the area. As of a month ago, Pastea Cafe has opened its doors at Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya. Situated just two doors away from the popular Habanna Charboiled Steakhouse, this cafe provides a diverse menu that includes all-day breakfast, nasi lemak, pasta, croissant sandwiches, nyonya kuih, cakes, and a variety of additional offerings.

I visited shortly after the lunch hour and I had the place all to myself. The ambiance was comfortable, exuding an air of simplicity. The customer service was good, characterized by warm and friendly staff.

Menu

Nyonya Kuih
Cakes

Matcha Lemonade, RM 14

Normally, I would not have considered trying this drink. It did not even occur to me when I was examining the menu. However, I was informed that it was worth trying, and thus, I obliged. I had honestly anticipated a drink characterized by a bitter and salty flavor profile; however, to my pleasant surprise, they have managed to capture the essence of matcha and lemon while rendering it enjoyable.

Each sip was pleasantly sweet, showcasing a unique blend of flavors. I have never been particularly fond of shaved ice, except when accompanied by cendol. I had presumed that the ice would merely be ice, but I was mistaken. Each time I bit into it, I realized that it retained the distinct flavors of the drink entirely. I found it delightful. The Matcha Lemonade undoubtedly qualifies as a refreshing drink that resonated with my palate.

Pork Rendang Nasi Lemak, RM 13

For RM 13, this dish certainly was good value, affordable. I particularly appreciated the sambal, as it evoked nostalgic flavors from the past. It exhibited neither excessive sweetness nor overpowering spiciness, instead presenting a perfectly balanced taste. The pork rendang was notably flavorful, comprising generous portions of boneless pork meat cubes, ample enough to satisfy until the conclusion of the meal. In summary, it was a thoroughly enjoyable dish.

Two Nyonya kuih, RM 1.80 each

As I have always had a deep appreciation for Nyonya kuih, I felt compelled to try the ones on display. I found the flavors delightful, particularly appreciating the balanced sweetness. The sticky rice accompanied by sweet coconut was particularly enjoyable. The orange and pink layered kuih evoked a sense of nostalgia, as I frequently consumed this treat during my younger years from a roadside stall operated by an auntie near my school. The experience of savoring it layer by layer was enjoyable. I continue to relish it with the same enthusiasm today as I did in my youth.

Overall, my experience at Pastea Cafe was good. Would I consider returning to this establishment? Indeed, I would. I liked all the dishes I sampled and anticipate the opportunity to explore the other offerings.

Cendol Good Nyonya food in PJ Happy Mansion Mee Siam Nasi Lemak Nasi Lemak with Ayam Rendang Nyonya Nyonya Kuih Sistars Kitchen

Sistars Kitchen @ Happy Mansion, Seksyen 17, PJ – Yummmm 😍😍

Every once in a blue moon, I’d do a short drive thru through Section 17, simply to check out if there are any openings that I missed. I like the area, it’s a good blend of old and new.

As I drove past Block C of Happy Mansion, I came across Sistars Kitchen. They have apparently been around for almost a year … how did I miss this?? 😮😮. The concept is similar to Kwong Wah Ice Kacang. While they are still as popular at their new location as they were at their old one, there was something unique about being located at Happy Mansion – the feel, the ambiance. So yea, seeing another eatery offer similar variety here, I was excited to give it a try.

Menu

Nyonya kuih, RM 3 per pack

Mee Siam, RM 6 + Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang, RM 9.90 + Cendol, RM 5.80

Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang
Mee Siam
Cendol

Food here was goooood. The cendol arrived first. 😍😍😍😍

The cendol was ooooooo yum. It had the right amount of shaved ice to gula melaka, red beans and those green rice flour wormy jelly thingy. An awesome dessert to have on a hot day. Loved it.

This was one good plate of mee siam. More often than I’d come across a plate of mee siam that is mediocre, at times even resembles mee hoon goreng. This one here was delicious. The taste, the spice, lemongrass infusion … it was yummy. 👌👌

Nasi Lemak was good too. I loved the chicken rendang. It was flavorful. The chicken juicy and tender. The sambal was onion sambal as oppose to anchovie sambal. It suited the overall dish well. I would have preferred it to be a bit more spicy buy hey, it was tasty regardless. Yumm..

Would I be back here? Yes I would. I loved the food here. Worth a revisit.

Chicken Rice Dry Curry Chicken Noodle New 2020 Nyonya Kuih Open Daily Pork Free Steamed Chicken

Inside Ipoh @ Damansara Uptown, PJ – Nice 👌 (Pork Free)

I was driving around the area looking for a spot to have lunch when I came across Inside Ipoh. There sure is plenty of Ipoh related food in Uptown, don’t you think? Ipoh Cravings Cafe … Ipoh Tuck Kee …. and now, Inside Ipoh. As the crowd was just picking up at that point, my friend and I decided to have lunch here. Plenty of space and time to eat and enjoy the quiet before the work folks start filling in.

Parking: Well, getting a spot in front the restaurant wasn’t going to be easy, especially on a weekday and that too during lunch hour. So, I ended up parking in one of the office blocks opposite Inside Ipoh, at an hourly rate of 3,4 ringgit. Yes, it may be an office block but certain levels of the basement carpark are also open to public.

**Sorry for the limited photos if the interior. Accidentally deleted some.

Menu

Curry Chicken Dry Curry Noodle, RM 9.90 + Lunch Set: Steam Chicken Rice, RM 8.90 + Beansprouts, RM 5

By the time we sat and ordered, I was very hungry. At that point, many things on the Menu looked enticing and tempting but I wasn’t going to risk it. If I ordered the wrong dish and it ended up being mediocre at best, it would simply make me hangry (hungry + angry). To prevent that, we asked for recommendations instead and ended up ordering Chicken Rice and Dry Curry Noodles.

The Dry Curry Noodle was good. It may be a simple dish but a tasty one it was. The star here would be the thick, flavorful curry as without it, this would have been a ‘bleh’ dish. In my opinion, the choice of noodles too played a vital role. I requested for a mix between mee and mee hoon, it went well with the dry curry. With the dish, I received two chunky, meaty chicken pieces on the side. This dish I liked. A simple yet tasty dish.

The Chicken Rice was good too. I especially liked the steamed chicken, both of us did. I’ve taste steamed chicken that are overdone, the kind that is dry, and rubber-ish. Happy to say that the ones here are soft, moist and tasted nice. Overall, a satisfying dish indeed.

I wouldn’t mind heading back here and this time, perhaps give their Hor Fun a try. I’ve seen it mentioned several times that the Hor Fun here is authentic and delicious, worth a try, ey?

Famous Kopitiam Nasi Lemak Nyonya Kuih Pork Free Toast with Kaya

Chong Kok Kopitiam @ Klang – Ummmm okaylah… (Pork Free)

This kopitiam is one of Klang’s longest running and well loved eateries, since 1940s. If you love nostalgia, being in the midst of nice and friendly folks – then you’d loveeeeee Chong Kok. Unlike many other kopitiams, here, you’d see all races. Malays, Chinese, Indians – everyone. It sure was a nice sight. It is almost always full/crowded, so be prepared to share tables with others. It is a common occurrence here, no one even bats an eye.

PSX_20200106_203957

Foodwise, depending on what you are looking to eat, this eatery may not satisfy you? The Menu here is rather limited. They serve a selection of Nyonya kuih, cakes, Nasi Lemak bungkus, Toast, Cucur Udang and several other items.

When we first arrived, we had no idea as to what Chong Kok offers. They were sooo busy, plenty of activities. We had no Menu, so we had to make decisions based on what we observed other folks eating. A gentleman was kind enough to point us towards the Malay lady that takes orders – thank you, sir 🙂 We would have continued waiting and waiting and waiting to no end. When you see this lady, you better catch here to place your order because she is one busy bee. She takes orders, serves food, direct customers, always on the move. No matter how busy she was though, she took the time to answer all our questions without an attitude. Apparently, what is popular here is the Nyonya kuih, Roti Bakar and Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang.

Nasi Lemak Bungkus + Toast with Butter & Kaya + Half Boiled Eggs + Kuih Angku

PSX_20200106_204100PSX_20200106_161051

We visited Chong Kok around lunch time by which the Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang ‘sudah habis’. Bummer. This is popularly known as a breakfast spot. If you visit beyond that – be prepared for some items to be sold out. They did have the Nasi Lemak Bungkus though and so, we decided to give that a go. We also opted to try their Toast with butter and kaya + half boil egg and Kuih Angku.

I did not get the hype about the Toast with butter and kaya served here. If you guys check reviews online, you’d notice that Chong Kok is highly rated and the Toast is one of the items commonly raved about. I however, did not like the Toast. The white bread used is thick and so, when it is lightly toasted, it might as well not be toasted at all because I can hardly tell the difference. On top of that, the butter and kaya is served on the side. When the bread arrived at our table, it was already somewhat cold. There was some struggle in applying the butter because it comes in a square chunk and it takes ages to melt due to the bread not being hot. Eventually, we decided to cut the butter into smaller chuncks, place it onto bread and spread kaya on it. I wasn’t impressed. Perhaps our timing wasn’t right? Maybe they were soo busy that they had to rush through my order … who knows?

The Nasi lemak Bungkus was pretty nice. It came with the usual items – rice + anchovies + sambal + half an egg + cucumber + peanuts. However, despite this dish and the Toast, we were still hungry, lol. We ordered the Kuih Angku next. Now this item, I enjoyed loads. Each color represents different filling – red bean + peanut + ??. I liked the fact that the outer layer was thin and the filling inside was generous. I loved it, yum!

Overall, I had an okay time here. For me, based on my experience here, Chong Kok appealed to me more in terms of its ambiance – the nostalgic feel it offers as well as its popularity – the friendly folks. In terms of the food alone, I wouldn’t travel all the way to Klang from PJ, just to eat here. Nope. If I am already in the area for some reason, then yeah – I’d be back and definitely for breakfast, not lunch.

Dessert Ice Kacang Local Desserts Nyonya Kuih

Kwong Wah Ice Kacang @ Happy Mansion, Sec. 17, PJ – Yup, I agree. Awesome cendol yawwwww!

Kwong Wah sure is popular with the PJ folks. I’ve attempted to get a taste of the delicious goodies they’ve had to offer many, many times only to fail due to it being crowded. All. The. Time.

I’ve gotten smart though, this time I waited till 2 pm, when there is a reduction in the lunch crowd, in hope to get an empty spot and yet, even then – it was full house. That being said, I only had to wait for 5 minutes for someone to leave and yesssss, I managed to get a table, all to my lovely self.

Kwong Wah is located in Block C of Happy Mansion. I had pizza in Block B for lunch and simply walked over to Block C, for some dessert – cendol. No sweat at all as they are all located nearby.

What’s popular here is Ice Kacang and Cendol. They are known for these two desserts. Other than that – they also offer a range of Nyonya kuih, Nasi Lemak Bungkus, Mee Siam, Roti and marble cake.

The Cendol here is awesome. I had a hard time deciding between the ice kacang and cendol as both these desserts are popular here but in the end, I opted for Cendol simply because it came with less ice. I wasn’t in the mood to dig through the mountain of ice that usually comes with Ice Kacang, so Cendol was a better option. This dish came with the usual ingredients – shaved ice + coconut milk + gula Melaka + red beans + green noodles.  In my opinion, what makes this cendol different from many others out there is the amount ratio. All ingredient in the bowl came in almost the same amount, which meant that when what you have left is the flavored melted ice at the bottom, there would still be enough green noodles and red beans to eat. Usually, the shaved ice comes in a big portion, the other ingredients comes in limited quantity but not here, it was all in equal ratio.  Tastewise – it was good, real good. I totally understand why Kwong Wah is always crowded. They do serve up good desserts.

Would I head back here?

Heck yea, already planning to head back here this weekend and getting a taste of that famed Ice Kacang.
