At times driving around aimlessly can lead to new discoveries. Such was the case with this one. Baba Hur Turkish Food has recently open their second outlet at Uptown, Damansara Utama.
Menu
One can find the usual Turkish street food here in addition to a selection of desserts and drinks. Dishes ordered also comes in ala carte or combo options. The combo works as a top-up to a main dish. For an additional RM 10, the main dishes will come with the addition of fries and a drink.
This rice dish features delicately cooked, tender rice accompanied by a side salad and minced chicken generously topped with a sauce of one’s preference. The meat was well-seasoned and exhibited a pleasing texture. Although the sauce I selected—a combination of garlic sauce and sweet chili sauce—did not appeal to my palate, it had minimal effect on the overall flavor of the meat. In comparing this rice dish to the wrap, I found the latter to be my preferred option.
Wrap Chicken DonerFries
For the Wrap Chicken Doner, I chose to order it as a combo, which included both fries and a drink. The wrap itself was quite satisfactory; the flavor and texture of the meat resembled that of the rice dish, albeit enhanced when wrapped as opposed to being served with rice. I had initially presumed that a wrap would constitute a lighter option for my digestion, but I was mistaken. It proved to be quite filling, particularly when accompanied by a portion of fries.

Menu
Garlic Bread, RM 7.90 + Cream of Mushroom, RM 7.90
Garlic BreadCream of Mushroom
Both these dishes were starters. The Garlic Bread was lovely, I liked it. A baguette/french loaf was used here and together with a good spread of garlic butter with pieces of garlic scattered all over, made up some tasty garlic bread.
Double Up Chicken, RM 44.90
Hickory BBQ ChickenFiery Chicken
The Double Up Chicken is a combo with 2 sides. It includes Hickory BBQ Chicken, Fiery Chicken with Onion Rings and Coleslaw. Both pieces of chicken were boneless and yummy but between the two, the BBQ chicken is my favorite as it had a nice mix of flavors – sweet and spicy.Fiery Chicken in contrast was spicy with evident hints of black pepper. Be careful as the spiciness sneaks up on you. My first mouth it was easy peazy. Fourth mouth onwards is when it hit. Both were delicious, the meat was soft and tender, it simply is a matter of preference that I liked the BBQ chicken better.
Prime Ribeye (180g), RM 63.90
The Prime Ribeye (180g) was tasty, juicy. As the meat was a combination of medium to well done – just the way I like it, there was mix of soft, tender, succulent meat with solid, chewy meat. It tasted good, well seasoned, biting into it was divine. I am well aware that when it comes to steaks, we all have our own personal preferences and so, be sure to mention it while placing your order. The dish also included broccoli, potato wedges and a mushroom black pepper dip.
Crispy Fried Chicken Cheese Burger, RM 32.90
The Crispy Fried Chicken Burger was exactly as its name suggest. You’d get a burger that includes a large piece of boneless fried chicken that was crispy yet juicy. I like that they use English Muffins as their burger bun, it worked well with the crispy boneless fried chicken, cheese, mustard, tomatoes, cucumber, mayo and lettuce. Yummmmm! The dish also includes a side of fries.
Apple Passion Frizz, RM 14.90 + Sunrise, RM 14.90
Sunrise (left), Apple Passion Fizz (right)
If you fancy something fresh, be sure to add these mocktails into your dining experience at Astons. If you are not much of a ‘sweet’ person then Sunrise would be ideal for you. What you’d primarily taste is reflective of the main ingredient used – orange. You’d get mainly sour tart-ish with an underlying mild sweetness. Besides orange, the drink also included lime juice and grenadine syrup.
While Sunrise was nice and refreshing, I liked Apple Passion Fizz the best.
Apple Passion Fizz includes apple juice, nata de coco, passion fruit puree and lychee poppers, a combination of all ingredients I like.Biting onto them nata de coco was nostalgic as it was one of my favorites things to chew on when I was a kid. The lychee poppers were even better. The poppers are small, round in shape and as soon as you bite into it, sweet lychee juice pours out. This drink has a good balance between sweet and sourness. The puree from the passion fruit provided bits of sourness among the sweetness. A fun drink to have after a hard days work.
Overall, I had an awesome time here. Thank you Aston Specialities for having us over.

About 50 minutes away from KL is Janda Baik. In conjunction with my mum’s birthday, the rest of the family decided to surprise her with this short trip out of town, to have lunch at Pineyard.
Janda Baik is a family favorite for a drive out of town. The area is cooling, greens everywhere, serene and most definitely a much needed change of scenary.
We spent 4 hours in Janda Baik, to us this suffices as a day trip. However, if you guys prefer something longer or overnight, you could always head over to Genting Highlands after as it’s just 40 minutes away from Janda Baik. You can even make this into a trip that last a few days. Start with Janda Baik and then drive into Bukit Tinggi which is 27 minutes away, Bentong town, 35 minutes away and the rest of Pahang. The possibilities are endless.
All of us thought that with Puasa going on, the crowd would not be much but we were wrong, very wrong, lol. There was a long waiting line with many people ahead of us. Waiting time was an hour. Good thing mum brought a large mat along with some cut fruits. So, we sat on the ground surrounded by greens, near the pond. A short picnic while we waited. Time passed surprisingly quick and soon enough, an hour passed and we were seated.
Pineyard was picturesque. A rustic structure surrounded by greens. It was serene and peaceful. Add in the pond in the middle of it all with loud ripples of water that had a rather calming effect on chaos city minds like ours. I liked it.
Despite being fullhouse, customer service was good. We were attended to quickly and food arrived 20 minutes later.
Menu
By the time we were seated, it was 1.30 pm and lots of dishes on the menu were sold out. Curry Pasta, Pesto Pasta, Grilled Sandwich, Pumpkin & Avocado Salad and etc. The pastries made up for it though.😁
The Marble Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream was good. I was especially in love with the ice cream. I am pretty sure it was not grocery store bought, yay! Having it with the marble cake was delicious. The Yuzu Croissant was apparently a crowd favorite. It consisted of soft, buttery, flaky coissany with Yuzu sauce as filling. The sauce had a tangy, lemon zest taste to it with some sweetness. The Salted Egg Croissant was another popular choice. My family liked it, I did not. A matter of preference, I suppose.
Fish & Chips, RM 39
The Fish & Chips consisted of Halibut fish with mashed peas and fries, greens and mayonnaise. It was pretty good. The halibut was nicely cooked, crispy on the outside. This particular white fish has a light, mild, sweet-ish taste to it and eating it with mayonnaise was tasty. The mashed peas were yummy, we all liked it and so were the fries.
Nasi Ayam Percik, RM 29
This dish was pretty good too. The dish came with spiced grilled boneless chicken with rice, ulam, egg, papadum and percik sauce. The sauce was somewhat of a letdown because it was rather bland. Not spicy, not flavorful, not sweet .. nothing really. It was bland. However, as this was the only gravy available to an otherwise dry dish, we ate it anyways. The grilled chicken was nice. It was tender, juicy and flavorful. Yea, if the sauce had more flavor to it, this dish would have been awesome.
Fries Combo, RM 16
This bowl of fries we ordered for no particular reason. As we all were fries lovers, we figured why not. It was a combination of normal and sweet potato fries with truffle dip. The dip was oddly sweet, lol but worked well with the fries.
Overall, we have a good time at Pineyard. I can see what the hype is all about. Just the food alone would not do it. The food + the ambiance and greens made this an awesome experience.I can see myself returning here but it would be a once in a blue moon thing, better appreciation.

I’ve been wanting to drop by Burger on 16 for ages and finally got my chance after a work meet at Berjaya Times Square. If you dont already know where exactly this eatery is located, it is nestled within the row of shops that is located right next to Times Square. From that building, as soon as you are out at the main entrance, all you have to do is walk pass the hotel and walk through the side till you see the row of shop Burger on 16 is located in. Barely a 5 minutes walk. This row of shops also house other eateries like Curee KL and Bestow.
The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. Both options are nicely shaded and well ventilated. So, it is really up to you what you’re in the mood for.
Outdoor seating
I’ve always thought that the wall art in and out of Burger on 16 was pretty cool. They’ve got some Game of Thrones characters on the wall as well as one of Bruce Lee and another of Mohammad Ali.
This would be my 4th time dropping by. As usual, customer service was good and food arrived in less than 10 minutes. The whole experience there was yet again – awesome.
Menu
Bells Aloha (Set), RM 24.80
As I have built quite the appetite by the time I arrived at this burger joint, I figured ordering myself the Set was the way to go. As you’d be able to deduce from their Menu, a Set would include fries and drink.
Oooo man, it was delicious. The patty was thick, moist and flavorful. If you guys are expecting some fancy burgers – this eatery may not be it for you. However, if it is all about the patty for you, then Burger on 16 is the right choice. It was for me. A simple burger where the patty is the star, it speaks for itself.Every bite was yummy.
I’ll be back again, for sure. This is one of my favorite burger jointsand it will remain so for a long time. I’ve been visiting them many times over the years and they have been consistently good.
I was at lost on what to eat for lunch. Lots of options available but I was in the mood for something new. So, I started by scrolling through BeepIt and eventually, I came across KitchenCo in Bangsar. This cloud kitchen piqued my interest, their Menu seemed awesome too, a variety of choices from several cuisines – Western, Local, Italian, Mexican, Desserts. A variety of cuisine under one roof.
Based on the information I could get online – this cloud kitchen officially opened 2 months ago, December 2020.A vision actualized by 2 childhood friends to help cooks/chefs who lost their jobs during the Covid pandemicwhile providing good food. A good deed indeed.
Where exactly is the Kitchen Co located? You guys know where Naj & Belle Bangsar is? Yup, opposite the road from this cafe is the University Kuala Lumpur Hostel, right?Next to this hostel is a low cost, low density apartment which is located right next to the traffic light. KitchenCo occupies the ground floor, corner lotunit of this apartment. You’d be able to see it from the road side, easily.
Menu
(*** The Menu is from FoodPanda website simply because it was easier to snap photos of. I ordered through BeepIt though. Do take note that there may be difference in price/promo code/discount between the two platforms)
** Via BeepIt, any orders above RM 30 comes with a 15% discount. So, be sure to key in the Promo Codo = STAYHOME15, when you are checking out. My grand total was RM 39.79 and with the discount, I ended up saving RM 6, paying RM 33. 81. Yay!!!
As mentioned before, there were lots of options available and so, to make things eaier for me, I ordered their best sellers. It was a brilliant decision as all the three dishes I went with were yummy.
I enjoyed the Fried Koay Teow. It was a nice portion size with 2 large prawns. Nicely flavored, tasty.
The Pablo’s ChickenBurger was simple yet delicious. Crunchy, juicy chicken patty with lettuce + tomato + burger buns with fries on the side. Size wise, it was slightly smaller than a KFC Zinger burger.Adding on the chips made it a more wholesome meal.Burp!
The Hawaiian Chicken Pizza comes in 2 sizes – a 6″ or 9″. I opted for the smaller size and it was just right considering the two other dishes I was going to ‘hantam’. It was thin crusted and had a generous topping spread. I loved it. As it was thin crusted, I would not be overwhelmingly full. This tomato based pizza include toppings such as chicken chunks, onions, pineapples and capsicum. It was yummy, I enjoyed it.
Overall, a pleasant experience. All the dishes I ordered were tasty and yummy. The ordering process was easy and so was the food pick up. I look forward to trying out their chicken pie as well as their fish & chips next.

As I had some time to spare, I was in the mood for something new. After scouring the internet for options, I came across Joloko. They have been around since 2018 but this was the first time I’ve come across them. Perhaps my rarity in venturing into this area is to be blamed. Lucky me that I came across them via Facebook. It was their menu that caught my eye – the dishes looked good and some of it had a surprisingly affordable price point. When I looked them up on Google to check ratings and reviews, they seemed to be well liked and highly rated – an average score of 4.4/5 from over 270 votes. That is quite a feat. It certainly was worth a try. I was excited because this would be a new experience for me. Why? Not only have I not been here before, I literally have no experience with Caribbean influenced cuisine.
*** Joloko is located in between Woo Pin 45 Kamunting and Stripes Hotel. It is within the same row and located next to one another. Opposite Tapestry.
This restaurant bar has a tropical theme to it. From the outside looking in, this is the first thing you’d see..
Lots of greens. As you head in, you’d see a graffiti filled sliding gate/door? that pretty much occupies most of the entrance – if you didn’t know better, you’d assume that Joloko is closed. However, as you walk closer to that gate/door, you will notice a small part of it (on the left side) open, and that is how you enter in – for now. They were doing some maintenance work at the entrance, hence why it was mostly closed off except for the passageway on the side.
As I walked in, oooo I was in loveeeeeee. It was as beautiful as it was aesthetically pleasing. The colors, the decor, the music, the food – the Caribbean influence was evident. It was an all around blissful experience. I will most definitely be back for more.
Customer service was great. They were friendly, accommodating and more than willing to have a chat. Food arrived within minutes. I’ve got no complains.
The sandwiches were delicious. You can choose your spice level – mild, normal or spicy. I opted for spicy. Part of it was the heat and the other part was pure spices, a burst of flavors. The sandwich filling was generous. The grilled pork was tender and juicy. Biting into it was divine. There was spinach, purple cabbage, purple radish, onions …. it was yummy! The barracuda sandwich is perfect if you fancy a sandwich with an array of flavors. The pineapple salsa gives you the right amount of sourness and tanginess that when mixed with the fish, pickle, onions and pineapple made up a tasty sandwich. Between the two,my favorite was the pork sandwich. I wouldn’t mind having another one right now.
My experience here at Joloko was pleasant and delightful. I definitely look forward to returning, to enjoy the good food and the ambiance, among other things.

A week or two ago, we visited Curee – Curee @ Jalan Imbi – Good food, awesome ambiance. , right? On our way out, as we were driving passed the eatery, we took that opportunity to look around and see if there were other restaurants/cafe that appealed to us. While most of it were occupied by “Mamaks” and the Middle Eastern variety, in the midst of it all was Burger on 16.
If you are in the city and you really are in need of some quiet, alone time – this would be an eatery to consider. Located just 5-10 minutes away from Berjaya Times Square, Burger on 16 offers you a comfortable and cozy avenue for that much needed ‘get away’ time, especially when all the hustle and bustle of the city life gets to you. I’d say the food here is decently priced too. Some might even say a tad cheaper than whats offered in other cafes and that itself does hold a certain appeal – does it not?
*** In regards to parking – it depends on whether it is your lucky day. When I visited Curee , I parked by the roadside illegally – dont judge me, I was simply following the crowd 😀 Anyways, I did not see any tow trucks roaming around. This time however, there were tow trucks literally roaming, towing cars. We decided to take the risk and parked directly in front the eatery, so that we could keep an eye on it. I am sure you guys know the drill – if ever the tow truck decided today would be the day they make a victim of my car – I’d make a run for it with my car even before they start on the clamping. ** Evil Laugh** Well, you could always park in the building opposite these row of shops or even park at Times Square, take a slow walk to this eatery. It isnt far at all, no sweat or simply wait around at the side of the road, some one is bound to pull out eventually.
As its name suggest – burgers are the main dish offered here. They also offer chicken wings and other sides in additions to desserts like molten lava cake and milkshakes. Based on the information available online, this eatery is Halal.
Between the combos and a la carte – we opted for the latter. Why? because their most popular burger (Chicken) was not available in the Combo/Set option. I wanted to give their popular burger a try, so a la carte was best + a side of sweet potato fries. The chicken patty that accompanied the burger was not fried but grilled. It was nicely flavored, with a spread of green secret sauce, it made for a delicious burger. Oh, and the caramelized onions made it awesome. There was also a coat of cheese and pickled vegetables cubes. All these lead to a combination of flavors that somehow worked really well together. It totally make sense why this is one of their popular burgers.
The Sweet Potato Fries were good too. Tasted exactly as it should have and I liked the fact that they cut it into regular sizes. Quite a lot of cafes I’ve come across that offer the sweet potato fries option have them cut in large, thick sizes. It tends to get overwhelming towards the end with a ‘muak’ like effect. When it is cut into smaller sizes, it taste more pleasing? I do not have a better way to explain this, lol. I am sorry.
Anyways, we enjoyed the sweet potato fries quite a bit that we decided to give their regular fries a go. If you’d notice in their Menu – it comes in 4 seasonings and we opted for Spicy.
It was yummy, yawww! I dont know if you can see it in the image above but those fries were sprinkled with chili powder. It was not too spicy but it certainly was different, unique. I liked it very much.
They offer 4 options for buffalo wings and 2 of them are crowd favorites – Honey Mustard, Hot & Spicy , depending on the flavor you fancy. We decided on the Hot & Spicy. Upon tasting it, I LOVE it!! It was really good. It wasnt hot and spicy in a way that cause your tongue to burn or you sweating profusely, not at all. Heck, your eye wont even start tearing. For me at least, no such thing and boy, was I glad. When a dish is really spicy to an extend the tears start flowing and the tongue start burning – you can hardly taste anything. Who wants that, right?
The outside was crunchy with plenty of flavor – spice, chilli, you name it. The meat inside was tender and juicy. Delicious, it was. I’d certainly order it again. Most definitely.
Would I head back here?
Ooooo yesss, I would. Food was awesome.
