Cafe in a park Dessert Free parking Greens Hidden Mutton Masala Nature New 2022: Feb Next to IKEA Damansara Orange Chocolate Tart Park 28 Pork Free Portuguese Baked Fish Set Lunch Something different

Park 28 at Mutiara Damansara – A hidden gem (Pork free)

Park 28 is a hidden gem. I’ve driven passed this particular busy road sooo many times, yet I had no idea Park 28 existed 😱😱. Opened since February this year, it is located within the Mutiara Damansara Recreational Park (next to IKEA Damansara). Entrance is by the roadside, easily accessible. This establishment exudes an air of fancyness with its country club feel, aesthetically pleasing too. If you are one of those who is an avid social media user, love taking photos and videos of anything visually pleasant, Park 28 will suit you just fine.

Parking: Plenty of parking available. As soon as you turn into the vicinity of Park 28, you’d be able to easily locate the designated area for parking, at no cost. Free of charge.

Park 28 has both indoor and outdoor seating. Just to experience both, I had lunch indoor and dessert outdoor. If you do visit on a day that isn’t raining, do sit outside. There is something appealing about being out in the greens and it is an awesome feeling being surrounded by it. Whether you visit on your own or with a large group of people, you most definitely will find a suitable spot here.

Menu

Set Lunch: Mutton Masala, RM 22.90 + Portuguese Baked Fish Fillet, RM 18.90

Since we dropped by within the 12 pm – 2 pm window, we opted to give their Set Lunch a try. Both dishes were certainly affordably priced and it included a bowl of soup as well as a glass of Iced Lemon Tea.

Mushroom Soup and Iced Lemon Tea
Mutton Masala
Portuguese Baked Fish

The soup and drinks arrived first, as it rightfully should. Soup of the day was the Campbell’s Mushroom Soup while Drink of the day was Iced Lemon Tea.

Less than 10 minutes later, our main dishes arrived. Food was good. The Mutton Masala was packed with plenty of flavors. I love the fact that it did not have the distinct, lingering aftertaste that usually accompanies this particular type of meat. The gravy was somewhat spicy and was awesome to eat with the rice.

The Portuguese Baked Fish Fillet was delicious too. It was cooked in Asam/Asam Pedas style. Boneless, tender fish with flavorful gravy and okra that was perfect to eat with the white rice that accompanied the fish.

Orange Chocolate Tart, RM10.90

Since we had a little more space in our tummies for dessert, we decided to share this tart. The Orange Chocolate Tart was decadent and appealingly bitter-ish. It had a good equilibrium between sweet and bitter, the kind you’d get from dark chocolate. I usually am not a fan of dark chocolate but the mix of chocolate and orange was rather appealing here. I liked it. It had a perfect balance of flavors.

The tart was a good end to my visit to Park 28. Would I head back here? I would. I regularly have meetings in the area and Park 28 would provide a good setting to have some of those get-together.

Address: 28, Persiaran Surian, Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

Aesthetically pleasing Ampang cafe Cafe in a plant nursery Cake Coffee Dessert Green theme cafe KL Greens Hidden Cafe Long black Nature No wifi Open Daily Plant nursery & cafe Pork Free Salted Caramel Cake

Sipping Corner at Ampang – Greens and cakes 😍 (pork free) (Permanently Closed)

Whenever I need some recharging and have time to spare, I usually head to this eatery. In case you do not already know, Sipping Corner is a cafe hidden inside a plant nursery. So, it is a no brainer that one can expect to be surrounded by greens here. I’ve had the most stressful week in a long time and since a day trip out of town is not possible at the moment, this is the best I can do to make myself feel better. Just me and my lonesome self, surrounded by an aesthetically pleasing environment, sipping on a cuppa coffe and biting into a slice of decadent cake. Dessert and greens, a good combination indeed.

Sipping Corner has 2 outlets – Puchong and Ampang. I’ve only ever been to the Puchong branch prior to this, the older one. The one in Ampang is newer, opened doors last year. It took me a good 30 minutes drive to get here from Brickfields. I intentionally opted for the tol free road since its the weekend. No traffic jam.

Parking : There are parking spots right infront Sipping Corner. As I visited on a weekend, most of the other shops were closed, empty spots were plenty and free.

Sipping Corner occupies a corner lot and has 2 floors. The ground floor is their nursery – Plant & Pot Studio, the top floor is the cafe – Sipping Corner.

*** There is NO WIFI here.

Plant & Pot Studio (Ground Floor)

Sipping Corner (1st Floor)

Menu

Long Black, RM 9 + Mix Salted Caramel Cake, RM 14

I decided to try their best seller – the Mix Salted Caramel cake. It comes with several layers. On the top is a sprinkle of biscuit crumble and a spread of salted caramel, followed by a layer of dense chocolate cake and then another spread of salted caramel. The bottom layer is made up an airy, fluffy cake. On the side, there is a layer of thickened chocolate ganache. It tasted good, not too sweet. If you are a fan of salted caramel, then this is the cake for you because it takes centerstage here. As it comes in multiple layers with several textures, it will fill you up quickly.

I liked the Long Black here. It was strong and potent. Certainly provided me with that bitter ‘kick’ I looked forward to.

*** As this cafe is located 10 minutes away from the popular Lookout Point, you can extend your trip to this side of town. Perhaps have dinner at the famous Thai Restaurant – Veg Fish Farm Thai Restaurant,( Veg Fish Farm Thai Restaurant @ Hulu Langat, Ampang – A delightful experience. Yum 🙂) and then spend the evening/night enjoying the panaromic view of Kuala Lumpur from the Lookout Point.

Address: 1-1, Jalan Awf 3a, Ampang, Selangor.

Opening hours: Everyday. 9 am – 6 pm.

Belgian Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Lava Cake Dessert Greens Iced Chocolate Instagrammable Nachos with Cheese dip Nature Pork Free

Bukku Cafe @ Klang – Worth the trip 😍 (Pork free)

My friends loveeeeee to ‘lepak’ at Bukku. I sadly, was never in the picture during any of their visits. Why? … because of the distance. While most of them live about 10, 15 minutes away, I unfortunately am based in Bangsar South which would take me 45 minutes to get there and another 45 minutes back. An hour and thirty minutes seemed too much of a hassle just for a friendly catch up. It was not a big deal, considering they are always hanging out in PJ, I can catch up whenever it was convenient. The downside was that I never ended up visiting Bukku.

This time however, I needed the long drive, away from KL. Let’s just say my job was and is thoroughly affected as a result of the Corona virus and the lockdown. Some days sucks more than others and today was one of those days. I needed the break. So yea, I got onto the Federal Highway and took a long, nice cruise to Klang. I suppose the weather was all in support of my rather depressing mood with its heavy downpour and gloomy skies, lol.

This cafe is located in the inner corners of Klang, I suppose. I’ve only ever gone as far the famous Indian street here and this goes about 15 minutes beyond that. You’d pass by neighborhoods that has been around for decades and eventually, the road will lead you into a relatively newer area. Where the houses and shops are more recent and within this neighborhood is where Bukku is located.

The cafe occupies 2 floors. At the time of my visit, both floors were fully occupied. I was told that this is a usual occurence, especially so during weekends. So, of you intend to visit and mind waiting for a table – do make reservations prior. If you don’t mind the wait, there are several chairs at the entrance for you to sit and wait for your turn.

Ground Floor

First Floor

The Ground floor (indoor) is meant for a smaller crowd. Mostly in groups of 2 and 3s. The Ground floor (outdoor) can certainly accommodate a bigger crowd. The top floor is a mix of small and large tables.

The backyard is certainly the main appeal here. Cozy and warm, perhaps even romantic to some. Especially when it is sunny, it is a nice feeling to be out in nature. You wouldn’t get much direct sunlight as there are plenty of plants that acts like a canopy of sorts to shield you. When it rains though, you’d have to head in. So yea, if you guys this cafe, get seated outside. It is a nice change of scenery. A perfect spot for some photography and Insta updates too.

Menu

Iced Chocolate, 12 ringgit + Molten Lava Cake, 15 ringgit + Tortilla Chips with Cheese sauce, 6 ringgit

For the Iced Chocolate, I opted for their “Finest Belgian Chocolate” offering. You’d get to choose between Milk – 34%, Dark – 54% and Extra Dark, 70% of which I went for the safest bet, the one in the middle. It was good, a perfect equilibrium between sweet and bitterness. Would love to give the Extra Dark a go during my next visit.

This was finger lickin goooood. The Belgian chocolate sure is a delight. The cake itself was light and airy, the chocolate filling was milky and a tad bitter-ish. However, with the sweetness from the homemade chocolate ice cream …. ooooo, it was delicious. I loved it. It certainly brightened up my gloomy day.

This I simply ordered because my “mulut gatal”. My tummy was full but I still wanted to munch on something and so, the nachos was perfect. The chips dipped in creamy cheese sauce was tasty.

Overall, I like Bukku cafe. I can see why my friends love hanging out here and I myself had an awesome time here. If time permits, I’d be back for another visit.

Burnt Cheesecake Coffee Dessert Hidden Hidden Cafe Ice Chocolate New 2019 Something different ?

Sipping Corner @ Puchong – A hidden cafe with lots of greens.

I was mighty glad my friend introduced me to this cafe. Ooooooo, imagine the fresh air !!  With the severity of the haze currently, this was a much needed temporary fix, lol.  Everywhere you turn, there are greens, lots of it, in many varieties. I really did enjoy myself here. You can literally feel the difference in the air you are breathing.

Sipping Corner Cafe is located inside Plant & Pot, a plant concept store. So, if you Waze here, be on the lookout for this concept store. Plant & Pot was amazing, it literally is a mini plant nursery that sells both indoor and outdoor greens in addition to in-house made art pieces for homes. Walking through the sections, feasting my eyes on the variety of greens was an absolute delight. It is an excellent place to keep your kids entertain, the variety of greens as wells as the small pathways all around kindda gives the impression that one is in a forest-like cocoon.  If adults like myself love it, imagine the kids, ey?

Plant & Pot offers several interesting workshops, monthly. For this month …..

PSX_20190921_100335

They offer workshops like Mindful Doodling, The Art of Macrame : Plant Hanger, Kusamono Moss Garden Workshop, Dried Flower – Comb and Ring SetGarden in the Globe, Starting a Bullet Journal, Garden in The Jar, Coral Gouache Workshop, Crochet Basket Workshop. Honestly, I’d never imagine myself painting a wall this particular green color but hey, it obviously works here. Pleasing to the eye it was and it kept up with the overall green, tropical theme going on. Nice indeed.

They serve a variety of drinks as well as cakes and quiche. No heavy, wholesome, main meal worthy dishes here. It makes for an excellent place for tea time – sipping on a cup of coffee while enjoying a slice of cake … which was exactly what I did.

Ice Chocolate, 14 ringgit + Burnt Cheesecake, 15 ringgit

The Burnt Cheesecake was nice and gooey. It certainly is a rich and creamy dessert. This particular cheesecake is a fad nowadays and as with many other cafes, this dessert is a best seller. I agree, it was delicious.

The Ice Chocolate was awesome. I have no preference as long it isn’t watery. Sometimes, I like it when my Ice Chocolate is slightly bitter-ish and sometimes, I fancy an equal chocolate to milk ratio, as the one served here. I liked it.

Samira by Asian Terrace @ KLPAC, Sentul – A pleasant surprise

Okay, did any of you guys know of the existence of this restaurant? I have been to KLPAC about 5 times and never did I see/hear of Samira. Apparently, they have been around since 2012, lol and I am 5 years late, but hey – better late than never, right?

First thing I noticed was the surrounding. Samira is located at the edge of a mini lake of sort. Breathtaking, really.

20170503_13312720170503_13334120170503_133343

20170503_13494920170503_13494220170503_133401

If you fancy yourself some time off from the city, surrounded by nature, then you should give Samira a go.  It certainly was a breath of fresh air for me, loved it.  At the point when I visited this eatery, it just finished raining, so I had the breeze literally heading my way with droplets of water occasionally hitting me – felt real good. Totally naturalistic.

20170503_13422120170503_13431220170503_13434620170503_13463720170503_13465620170503_13471320170503_13463720170503_13465620170503_13471320170503_13472120170503_13463720170503_134747

They offer a variety of Asian dishes, there is the Indian style Prawn Crabmeat cake that resembles vada/vadai, the pineapple fried rice which is a popular Thai dish, Kankung belacan – Chinese style and many more dishes to tickle your taste buds.

Prawn Crabmeat Cake, 26 ringgit

20170503_14004720170503_140143

For starters, I decided to give this vada/vadai like prawn crabmeat cake a try. I have tried this dish several times before, elsewhere and while it tasted good, it usually is either overwhelmingly oily and/or somehow lost its crunchiness along the way. When the dish arrived here though, as soon as I cut into it to take my first mouth, you can literally feel the crunchiness.  YAY! IT tasted really good, was not overwhelmingly oily and was properly spiced. There was plenty of prawn and crabmeat filling that came with this ‘cake’ , they did not stinge on it. There is nothing I would change about this dish except for the fact that I wished there were plenty more ‘cakes’ than 5 that came with this dish. It was not enough – I needed more, lol.

Chicken Spicy Sauce, 28 ringgit

20170503_14190620170503_141916

If you like you chicken not too spicy, a little sweet with some gravy – the do give this a try.  I fancied myself some chicken that did not fall into the ‘curry’ category because that would mean too much gravy, so instead – I wanted something dryer and this was what that was suggested. It was exactly what I needed. The chicken was deboned and cook to perfection, tender and easy to cut into. The gravy was thick, fragrant, spicy with a tinge of sweetness. I loved it.

Pineapple Fried Rice, 24 ringgit

20170503_141651

I loved this fried rice. Literally all the ingredients that made up this dish – I like. There was about 3 large prawns, cashewnuts, raisins, corns, carrots, peas and egg.  There was crunchiness, sweetness and spiciness with a burst of flavors as soon as you take a spoonful of it. Loved it. Definitely the kind of fried rice i would order again.

Would I head here again?

Yes, but not anytime soon. First of all, it is located quite a distance away from where I am located. Secondly, as an attempt to eat healthier,  I usually eat rice and seafood once a week and when I do – I like variety. In terms of the food offered at Samira, it is perhaps something I can find nearby, maybe not at the similar standard served at Samira but I can nevertheless find something nearer. I would head to Samira though, when I want a change in ambiance/environment – the naturalistic feel/view it offers. It certainly will distress me.
