Wok It @ Bangsar – Yummy 😍😍 (Halal)

Things seem to be back to normal now, almost normal. Folks going back to work, roads are back to being busy and and eateries slowly easing up into allowing their customers to dine in. I’ve been out and about for the past two weeks but surprisingly, after getting use to being indoors for months, heading out does seem a lil odd. I actually started missing takeaways and deliveries. Prior to MCo, I’ve never been one to get takeouts but now, I’ve completely flip sides. Surprise, surprise.

Anyways, after a few days of going without, I’ve decided to get myself some takeaways for lunch from Wok It Bangsar. I’ve heard nothing but good things about them from my friends – food is good and fast service. I checked out their menu and it only got my stomach rumbling in anticipation and excitement. If you guys fancy some noodles or/and rice bowls with local flavors and affordably priced – Wok It is for you.

For now, I think only delivery and take aways are available. I opted for self pickup because I was already in the area, specifically at Menara Uoa Bangsar. Had a short catch up session with a friend and I figured that this would be the right time to try out this eatery as it is located just opposite the road from where I was. When I arrived to collect my meal, there was already a waiting line. It seems like Wok It is a fan favorite  among the working folks in the area.  Plenty of deliveries going out too.  The restaurant is design in such a way whereby the kitchen is visible from the counter and the front. From what I saw, they had about 6,7 cooks going at it, cooking nonstop the entire duration I was there.

Wok It Box – Mango Sweet Chilli, 12 ringgit + Value Meal for 1  (Bowl)  – Salted Egg Chicken, 15.90 ringgit

I initially ordered ‘Kam Heong Chicken’ for both the bowl and the box. However, it was sold out by the time I arrived to pay and collect my food. Bummer. So, if you guys are a fan of this particular style, it is best to place your order early.

For the Wok It Box, my noodle of choice was Kuey Teow. With the 12 ringgit it cost me, it comes with an option of choosing 2 vegetables and one meat. There were several options to choose from and so, if you intend to add on addition items beyond the accepted quota – you can do so. Just anticipate an increase of 1 ringgit at least per additional item. My particular combination was Mango Sweet Chili for sauce, Capsicum and Broccoli for vegetables and Chicken for meat with spring onions for garnish. I must admit, when I first received my order, the takeout box was rather small which lead me to wonder whether paying 12 ringgit for a small amount was worth it. First thing I did when I reached hone was chuck the contents of that box onto a plate and I sure was surprised.

For a small box, it sure can contain a lot of noodles. I was surprised. Tastewise, the noodles were yummy. Sure, I was a little disappointment when I was told the Kam Heong sauce was sold out but the Mango Sweet Chili sauce was an awesome choice. I thought it would be all sweet but there was some spiciness in there too. I loved it. The dish overall was tasty. I’d order it again. Definitely.

For the Value Meal for 1, the set comes with a rice bowl of your choice + chips + drink. For the rice bowls, besides Kam Heong, they offered 2 other flavors – Salted Egg Chicken, which was my pick and Orange Chicken.  Again, lots of rice and generous amount of chicken coated with thick salted egg sauce and an egg. I loved it. Plenty of flavors and tasted awesome. The chips were something new as I’ve never tasted these sort of chips. It was thin, crispy and it sure did come in a large quantity. It tasted good and I especially liked the mayo sauce that came with it. Its provided that extra ummph because it wasn’t a usual mayo, what it was is mayo with dried shrimp paste in it? It was da bomb. A perfect addition.

All in all, I was well fed and well satisfied. Burp!! I’d definitely be back again for more.

Banana Leaf Rice Cabbage with lentils Chicken Varuval Cucumber, onions with yogurt Dine In Fish Cutlet Open Daily Open during MCO Takeaway/Delivery service Taugeh

Moorthy’s Mathai @ USJ 4, Subang Jaya – Pretty good if you can overlook their slightly diluted curries :)

If you enjoy Indian food, especially of the banana leaf variety, we all tend to have our favorites. There are specific restaurants that we tend to visit whenever the cravings strikes. My go-to would be Aunty T’s, Asian Rice Pot,  Puchong Chettinad Mess and Masala Wheels. I’ve been visiting these guys for years but this time, I was in the mood to explore something new, preferably in Subang Jaya since I was already in the area. After some online search, I came across Moorthy’s Mathai. It had an average rating of 3.8/5 from over 670 votes. Seemed pretty good to me and so, off I went.

As soon as you enter, you’d get to see the dishes on display and choose whichever meat and vegetables you fancy. Prior to MCO, you’d be able to sit in that area. During MCO, if you are dining in, customers are seated in the inner section, which I appreciate. Why? This is clearly a well loved neighborhood restaurant and so, lots of folks drop by to ‘bungkus’/ take away too and the last thing I want is to sit in that same area while people move in and out regularly. Being seated in the inner section allows me a separation due to it being located in a different area. Much appreciated.

During my time of visit, the eatery was mostly occupied. Bustling with activities. Lots of chatter and movements. The servers, waiters were obviously busy running around but when you try and get their attention, they do stop and pay attention. There were several times I thought they’d forget my order but nope, they delivered. I was even more impressed when I saw the boss man himself taking orders from customers and helping out. That is a rarity, isn’t it?

Two Banana Leaf Set + Chicken Varuval + Two Fish Cutlets, 33 ringgit

When I placed my order, I requested that they give me ‘chicken breast’ for my chicken varuval, which basically translates to “give me chicken with more meat on it.” I was yet again impressed because they actually listened. Many restaurants do not and considering how busy these guys were, I was hoping to be lucky enough to be given some but besides a few bones here and there, I was given plenty of flavorful, meaty and juicy pieces of chicken, way more than I anticipated. Me like.

Another point to like was their serving of vegetables. More often than not, it is already bad enough that some restaurants use table spoons to serve because the amount served will be little, by the time that spoon reaches your banana leaf though, half of its content would have fallen back into its container. When you ask for a refill, even though it is within your right, they give you attitude. I had no such problem here. First of all, they use the right kind of utensil to scoop the right amount of vegetables to serve you. Secondly, if you do request for a refill, they scoop the same amount of vegetables they did prior for this time too. There was no stingyness or attitude. I liked this very much.

The Banana Leaf Set comes with rice + 4 vegetables + papadum + rasam + curry. During my time of visit, the vegetables were taugeh, cucumber with onions and yogurt, cabbage with lentils and pumpkin. My favorite was the pumpkin and cabbage as evident from my request of refills, lol. It was yummy. The chicken varuval had plenty of flavor and plus the meaty pieces I received, it was da bomb. The cutlets were tasty. It was crispy on the outside and dense on the inside. There was a nice blend between fish and mash potato. Nice flavors. Overall a yummy meal. Burp! The only downside was their curry, it was a lil diluted for me. This is strictly a matter of personal preference. I for one like my gravy thick and packed with flavors. The ones here while had flavor, it was a tad watery. Besides this, everything else was pretty good.

15 % off bill Belacan Fried Rice Open Daily Open during MCO Pad Thai Self PickUp Thai

KomPassion Thai Fusion @ Damansara Kim – Good food :)

I’ve always enjoyed the food at KomPassion. It is delicious but a bit on the pricier side. This meant that my visits here are usually once, twice a month because honestly, money doesn’t grow on trees for me. Between regularly covering cafes and restaurants, paying bills, working, freelancing, regular travelling, there isn’t much $$$ left at the end of the day, lol. So, yea, especially with the MCO, resulting in disruption of work, it really isn’t a luxury at the moment.

So, there I was, fully intending to get myself chicken rice for the day. However, to reach the chicken rice stall located in the corner shop, I’d have to walk past KomPassion. As I was passing, I came across their MCO Menu on display outside the eatery. I wasn’t intending to buy anything but since I was passing by – why not, right?

What??? Compared to their usual pricing, this was surprisingly more affordable, cheaper. As I was scrolling through their Menu, several items caught my eye and it was safe to say that I ended up having some Thai food for lunch this time instead of chicken rice.

** Do check their Facebook page prior to ordering because they tend to add on new offering/ items regularly.

How to Order?

psx_20200508_1557016314838413427853312.jpg

Rather than Whatsapp or connecting through FB, I decided to call directly and order. I was told the amount due as well as to arrive in 15 minutes for pickup. When I arrived 15 minutes later, I paid what was owed and picked up my food. That was it, pretty easy.

Belacan Fried Rice with Fried Fish, 20 ringgit + Phad Thai, 15 ringgit

Phad Thai

Food was yummy and the portion size was large. We shared these two dishes between the 3 of us and still ended up with full stomachs at the end of it.

The Belacan Fried Rice was delicious. The dish comprised of three large fish filllets + fried rice + egg + vegetables for garnish and flavorful green sweet sauce. It tasted yummy, The rice was slightly on the dense side but the texture suited the flavor of the rice. The fish fillets were large, so there was more than enough to last you from the start till the end.

The Phad Thai came with a generous amount of noodles + 3 medium large prawns + egg + crushed peanuts + taugeh + vegetables and etc. The noodles had a sweet-ish taste to it and once all the items were mixed, it embodies the flavors of a Phad Thai. Delicious. Both the dishes were yummy, we were really satisfied.

Banana Leaf Rice Indian Mushroom Fried Rice Open Daily Pork Free Rava onion Thosai Self PickUp Vegetarian

Saravanaa Bhavan @ Bangsar – Awesome 🤩🤩

I was pretty sure that I wanted Indian food today but where? Dunno. So, I decided to get onto Foodpanda and see what options I have. There were several but Saravana Bhavan caught my eye. Why? For nostalgic reasons. Back in the day, about 10 years ago, my family and I used to regularly visit this restaurant whenever there was a get-together. I was rather fussy as a kid but I recall loving the Mushroom Fried Rice here. Fast forward almost a decade later, all the kids grew up and went our separate ways, Saravana Bhavan was just an afterthought.

So, when I came across it this time.. it was nostalgic and I thought “why not?.” Just for old time sake, why don’t I order myself a Mushroom Fried Rice, lol. I wasn’t planning to spend much $$$, that was my only worry. If it was pricey, I would rather order elsewhere. I did not have to though because if I opted for Self Pickup, I’d get 15% off the whole bill, yawwwww. Yay !!

Mushroom Fried Rice + Banana Leaf Meal + Onion Rava Thosai = RM 28.74

The food was yummy and the portions were generous. My friends and I, we certainly had a feast.

Mushroom Fried Rice

The Mushroom Fried Rice was real nice. Even after 10 years, it still taste the same. It is a simple dish – rice, with plenty of mushrooms, onions and bell pepper but the ingredients + the spices, da bomb. Its’s vegetarian and while I almost always need meat, this is one dish I can go without. The fried rice comes with 2 sides – mooru with onions and cubed vegetables in gravy. Overall, I enjoyed this dish.

Onion Rava Thosai

All of us thought this wasn’t what we ordered. There is no filling when one orders Onion Rava Thosai. What I think we got was Onion Rava Masala Thosai? Because there was a good portion of spiced cubed potatoes inside. Lots of it. We were kindda bumbed because the person that ordered it is eicly fussy. The kind that cuts of carbs, no rice, no sweets and exercises loke 10 times a day… you get the picture, right? We were kindda worried because while the rest of us were enjoying our meal, she most probably wouldn’t? Imagine my surprise when she said it was delicious. Sure, she removed half of the potatoes but she enjoyed it. I tried it, it tasted pretty good. The thosai comes with Sambar and Chutney for sides.

Banana Rice Meal

You’d get a portion of rice with 2 servings of rasam + 2 servings of rasam + 3 servings of vegetable cooked in different styles + curry and a dessert. This was awesome. It was almost as good as having having a banana leaf rice meal at a restaurant. “Almost” because I truly miss having a meal on a banana leaf. Nothing can beat that but this was almost as good. Everything you need is all there. Ohh, there was some papadums too but it’s not in the image above because it was all in my stomach by then. I sure did ‘hantam.’ Burp!

Bentong Ginger + Turmeric + Matcha Double Cheese Sandwich Matcha Matcha specialty cafe New 2020 Open Daily Open during MCO Pork Free Self PickUp Takeaway/Delivery service

Oh Cha Matcha (OCMC) @ TTDI via Self PickUp – Ooo matchaaaa, me miss you 😍 (Pork free)

I’ve been matcha deprived. It has been more than a month since I’ve enjoyed the freedom of sitting at a cafe and sipping on a nice warm cup of matcha latte. Yup, it has been forever and I miss it. I know it may not be everyones’ cup of tea but it sure is mine. Not only does it have medicinal properties – vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, helps regulate blood pressure and blood sugar, aides your immune system, anti aging.. I also loveeee the green, leafy taste it has. My fascination for its’ taste is borderline weird, so my friends keep me but I cant help myself.

Anyways, as I was on my way back home the other day from picking up food, I ‘ternampak’ OCMC. Whattt? A matcha specialty cafe just 5 minutes away from me? Could this be where I get my matcha fix?? Perhaps 🤔🤔

I immediately got onto their social media just to get a feel of what they offer. They sure do offer a variety of stuff – drink, food, desserts. That kindda sealed the deal for me, I was gonna get my fix, finally.

I told you, didn’t I. They offer a variety, literally the whole works, from food to desserts and drinks. 🤩🤩

Fast forward the next morning… I headed straight to their Insta page, there was a link in their bio that would direct you to their ordering platform. Once you are there, click on the “Online Order (10 am – 7 pm)” tab. This would lead you to the ordering page. You scroll through their menu and then head all the way to the bottom of the page and click on “Order for takeaway and delivery here” tab. Then, choose between “Self PickUp” or “Food Delivery”. Keep in mind that in accordance with the MCO, they only deliver within a 10 km radius. Next, you select the items you want buy and finally make payment, which comes with three options – via the usual Visa/Mastercard, Grabpay and Boost?? if I am not mistaken. For the self pickup option, you’d be requested to provide a name and phone number. Once OCMC has received your order, they’d then call you to inquire about the collection time and etc.

The process was easy, no problem at all. Location-wise, the cafe is located along Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi, within the same row and a few doors away from CIMB, basically opposite/ facing Menara Ken and Petron.

Bentong Ginger + Turmeric +Matcha (Iced), 13 ringgit & Double Cheese Sandwich, 6 ringgit

The matcha drink was real good. I loved it, would certainly head back to OCMC as long as I am stuck in this part of town, for my matcha fix. I specifically ordered this combination because I was feeling kindda lethargic. I’ve been working on my laptop a lot, haven’t been moving around much, hence my body feeling rather tired the whole time. I needed a boost, a healthy one. Lucky me that it was tasty. The matcha taste was evident, so was the Bentong ginger. Here, they somehow managed to balance those strong flavors, rather than one overpowering the other, it somehow pleasantly blends. The sweetness was just right too. It was refreshing. I enjoyed it, truly.

** Be sure to give the drink a nice mix before you indulge. By the time I reached home, most of the matcha has already accumulated at the bottom. At that point, if you do not stir it, the drink would taste diluted. So, give it a nice mix so that you can enjoy it in its’ true glory.

The Double Cheese Sandwich is pretty simple. You’d get charcoal bread, with a layer of cheese + lettuce and mayo? You could eat it like that but by the time I reached home, the bread was already cold. I like my sandwiches warm, the cheese melted, which wasn’t the case here. So, I reheated my sandwich, made sure the cheese melted, added some extra items and then, ate it. It was good 🙂. If you fancy a simple sandwich with a reasonable price point, this could be it. I am planning to try their Roti Bakar with Matcha next. I am curious to taste that combination. Some sweetness with a pinch of bitterness perhaps??

Chicken Burger Oddle Pasta Takeaway/Delivery service Ulam Pesto Pasta

Knowhere @ Bangsar via Oddle – Got my burger fix :)

I’ve been alternating between rice and noodles the past week and I needed a break. Perhaps some burgers or pasta might help change it up a bit. I had several options in mind, restaurants that were nearby and do takeaways, deliveries. So, there I was all excited, going through the whole ordering process right up to the payment section …. and that was where I encountered an issue. My MSOS (Maybank Secure Online Shopping)  apparently had an error, which meant that I could not get the code I needed to proceed with payment. The way to rectify the issue is me having to personally go to a Maybank ATM machine and key in my phone number again. Ugghh. I am not planning to do so anytime soon, especially with the MCO in place, which meant most of the eateries in my list aren’t available because none of them accept cash. Yup, it sucks …. what a time to face this issue, right? Thankfully that did not deter me from scrolling Facebook and Instagram for choices. Eventually, I came across Knowhere.

So there I was, fingers crossed, hoping they’d accept cash and hallelujah – they do! Yesss!

I found Knowhere on Instagram. Now more so than ever, you’d see lots of eateries advertising themselves, half of them having promotions and etc, right? This was how I stumbled upon this eatery and as I scrolled through their images, the food seemed appetizing and it was offering me exactly what I needed, wanted – burger and pasta. I placed an order via Oddle (link in their bio) and it was easy peezy.   After you click on the link, it would bring you to their Menu/ available offerings.

After scrolling through what’s available, I decided on the Ulam Pesto Pasta and the Krispy Burger. Once the items were selected, you’d then be able to select your method of delivery as well as its day and time. Then, you’d be led to the payment page – be sure to key in the promo code “KNWHRDEL19” to be eligible for a 19% off your total bill. You can choose to pay immediately via online or with cash when you’ve received/picked up your order. Due to my credit card issue, I opted to pick up. About 5-10 minutes before my pickup time, a representative from the restaurant gave me a call to inform me that my order. I then made my way there, arrived within the allocated time, I paid the amount due and collected my food. As I said – easy peezy.

Ulam Pesto Pasta + Krispy Burger, 45.17 ringgit

IMG_5987-2NAF03873

The Ulam Pesto Pasta is a rather unique dish. Usually when you see the word ‘pesto’ in anything, you’d anticipate the pleasant combination of basil and olive oil in abundance, right?? Well here, the pasta comes with a twist, an Asian twist to an otherwise Western, European dish. The twist being the influence of ulam and Kaffir Lime. As a result, the pasta had a rather unique taste. Yea, you’d get pesto but on top of that – you’d also get a nice dose of sour-ish tangyness. It was a surprisingly yummy combo. I liked it. Besides the tasty flavors, the Ulam Pesto Pasta also included a generous portion of mushrooms, tomatoes and grated cheese. A flavorful dish overall. I only wished they offered a choice of chicken as an add-on. That would have made this dish super awesome.

The chicken burger was da’ bomb, it certainly satisfied my cravings. Burgers are everywhere but with the outdoor movement  restrictions, it has been rather difficult to sink my teeth into one, sob sob. When I finally did though, I am happy this was my burger of choice. It was big and juicy. You’d get a burger bun on the top  , followed by a slice of ham + a large piece of boneless chicken leg + thick, gooey cheese + roasted vegetables + spiced mayonnaise, finished with another bun at the bottom. It was big, not the kind you’d be able to get the top to bottom in one chew … unless your mouth is exceptionally large. I enjoyed the burger a whole lot. Flavorful and filling it way. Yuuummmm. Oooo, this dish also comes with a side of potato wedges too, in a generous portion.

I am satisfied. Food was delicious and I am full. Don’t mind me now …. I’m gonna go Netflix and chill yaawwww.
