TeeKaapi Indian Cuisine @ Ecosky, Batu Caves -Yumm!

The name ” Teekaapi”  sounded awefully familiar. I did not get it at first. It’s just something that you’d come across if you hang out with Indian folks quite a bit, like I do. A term of some sort? I could not wait around to figure it out and so, I brought it up and my friends educated me. Teekaapi …. Tee and Kaapi  = Tee and Coffee ? Get it? So, TeeKaapi is basically TeaCoffee, pronounced Indian style? Yea, I get it now 🙂 I dont know if this actually is what the owners actually intended for it to mean but this was a valid substitute, lol.

Anyways, this eatery is located in Eco Sky. If I am not mistaken, this is a combination of service apartments/ residences and a mini business park. One side is the residences and the other is low density business lots – 2,3 floors? Yea, one of those.

Parking was easy. They have a Basement car park with plenty of space and it is free. Just remember to validate your ticket on your way out.

I liked the area. From the looks of it, you’d notice that it certainly is new. Plenty of shop lots still vacant but worry not though, they are quite a number that is already occupied.  You’d find some eateries here and there. You would not be bored.  I for one look forward to paying Eco Sky a visit again in a few months, firstly because I like how it feels here and secondly, because it simply is the kind of place that more eateries will open shop at, I look forward to trying out other options here.

The eatery looked nice. Cozy and modern cafe-ish looking. A perfect blend between Western features with plenty of Indian influences. You’d find similar mix with the food they offer here as well. As you look through their menu, you’d notice that they offer a perfect blend between Indian – briyani, rotis and Western – pasta, burgers. Depending on what you fancy, there is a variety to go for.

Ice Gulla, 6 ringgit + Koli Briyani, 15 ringgit + Crabby Chick Stack, 22 ringgit

This was suppose to be dessert but I decided to have it as a starter, lol. If you want something light and sweet – do give this a go. The amount is just right, nothing too overwhelmingly heavy. It did not influenced my hunger at all, I went on to ‘hantam’ some briyani and burger 🙂

It basically comprised of Rasgulla on the top with Vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce on the bottom. Rasgulla has a ‘biscuit-ty’ texture and the ice cream with caramel sauce provided a creamy, milky texture. It was a yummy combination. I enjoyed it 🙂

The briyani was good. You’d get a large pieces of tender, spiced chicken thigh. Some restaurants like ‘drowning’ the rice with gravy, not here though. Despite the dish itself not being laden with gravy, the rice and meat was steamed ? yea, steamed well enough that all the flavors and spiced were already infused well into the items by the time it reached our table. Of course, if you still need visible ‘wetness’, they left some gravy at the bottom of the pot – all you need to do is mix it up. For me, nothing beats Kanna’s – Kannaa’s Masalla Bamboo Briyani @ Kinrara, Puchong – Yummy Briyani! , but this was pretty good, in briyani terms. I’d order it again.

The Crabby Chick Stack – now, this I like lots lots. For 22 ringgit, this was an awesome burger. I do not come across many eatery that serves soft shell crab at 22 ringgit. That is considered rather low/cheap.  Let me break down the items for you. You’d get soft shell crab on the top + burger buns  + lettuce + crispy and tender chicken patty + tomatoes and onions, with a side of fries, for just 22 ringgit. The burger itself was yummy. Do expect a combination of textures and flavors. Some crunch, some chewyness. Nice.

Would I head back here?

Yes, I would. Food here was good and I do like the area. I am certainly heading back here to Eco Sky to check out the other eateries. During those times, whenever I fancy some Indian, will keep TeeKaapi in mind 🙂

Address: Ground Floor, Eco Sky, Taman Wahyu, Batu Caves (You would be able to see the eatery as you are driving round the block, heading to basement carpark.)

Opening hours: Yuesdays to Sundays, 10 am – 11 pm. Mondays Closed.

Dotty’s Pastries & Coffee at TTDI KL- Nice (Halal)

Today I visited Dotty’s in TTDI, a few lots away from Pickle & Fig Cafe, it’s a relatively new addition to this bustling neighbourhood, barely a year old. It is located at the entrance of TTDI, along the row of shops right next to the Balai Bomba & Penyelamat (Fire Fighters & Rescue), not the front side though, it is the row at the back, the one where McDonald’s is located. From the outside, it has a very English feel to it, the word ‘Dotty’s’ written in bold – somehow gives you a picture of opulence, the kind that says – Do not enter unless you are willing to spend 100 ringgit, lol. Get my drift? I was not surprised though, after all Dotty’s is owned by the Naza Brothers, and similar to their other Food venture – BLVD House, you get the exact same feel. Inside however, was more welcoming. My first thought was – Full house, it was. Full. Literally every table was taken. That is bound to tell you something, does it not? There were folk celebrating their birthdays, friends get together or simply a family outing. The atmosphere was jovial, filled with laughter and boisterous chattering. However – I would not say its a neighbourhood cafe, unlike Frisky Goat. Its not the kind of cafe you would feel comfortable visiting dressed up in short shorts, baggy  t-shirt and a pair of slippers, the kind of get up you most probably would be in if you just woke up from bed.  The kind of clientel that frequents this place is mostly made up of upper middle class to the riches, similar to that of Frisky Goat as well, but the difference between these two cafes is that it feels more comfortable wearing gym/exercise gear and t-shirts,shorts and slippers when you head to Frisky Goat as oppose to Dotty’s. At Dotty’, you somehow get this unspoken vibe that requires you to put some effort and be presentable before you pay a visit. The prices of the food and desserts served though, it does not differ much from the usual cafe prices – so I cant really say it lives up to the opulence atmosphere it tends to exude – which by the way, is an awesome factor for us patrons. An affordable cafe – what more can you wish for, right?

Soft Shell Crab Burger , RM 32

Would you look at that?? Does it not look yummy ? It was exactly what it was – YUMMMMM !! The soft shell crab was utterly delicious. The outer part of it was crunchy. What’s good about it was that the layer was made of little flour. I hate it when you ask for a burger and half of the patty is made of fried flour. I sure am NOT willing to pay 30 ringgit for something as crappy as that. Surely, that is a sentiment shared by many of you, it is a rip off ad not to mention unhealthy. That however is not the case here. The flour was kept to its minimal, which certainly kept me happy. The patty was made up of a lot of crab meat – YAY! It totally feels worth it that this meal cost 32 ringgit. The bun used was not the regular ones – it was one of those gourmet oatmeal bread. Have not tasted a burger that was made up of anything other than the regular plain buns, this tasted equally good – more cruncier and was more flavorful. In between the burger patty and the bun, some spinach and crated steamed carrots were inserted, with a dash of mayonaise. The whole combination was awesome. Very satisfying meal.

Cant say much about the fries. It was not any different to the ones served in many other cafe/restaurants. It was cooked well – thin and crisp. Not covered in oil and neither was it overpowering in salt. It tasted good. A perfect side to compliment the soft shell crab burger. Definitely a dish I would recommend.

Nutella Oreo Cheesecake, RM 13

20161218_162206

Their desserts and pastries seemed to be doing very well. Literally every table had some sort of desert to accompany their mains. So yea, I decided to jump on that bandwagon and order myself one – although my choices were pretty limited by the time I decided that I wanted to try one. I am not exaggerating or joking when I say each table had a dessert. The dessert display was emptying as we speak. With limited options between the pavlova, creme brulee, flourless chocolate cake and nutella oreo cheesecake – I decided on the nutella. Was not really a fan of nutella – I do not hate it though, but of cheese I certainly am.

When you take your first bite – the taste of nutella was sooooo overpowering. For nutella lovers – this is definitely your kind of cake. For those of are not really a fan, here is my advise. Separate the whole layer of nutella from the other 2 layers and let it cool down. Give it 10 mins of so before you start consuming it. When you do start eating it – for every spoon of the cheese and oreo layer you take, include a quarter spoon of nutella. Follow this advise and your will have yourself a delicious nutella cake. Trust me on this. I liked it. Would I order it again ? I dont mind sharing it but no – it would not be a cake I would order to have on my own.

Would I head here again?

Would I head here again? Yes – I will. I am looking forward to trying the other items on their menu.  However, it would not be a cafe I would frequent often, no – it would not be my hang out spot. That being said, it is worth a once in a blue moon visit – so yea, will head there again.

VCR at Jalan Galloway, Bukit Bintang KL – A Tranquil Spot within the Boisterous City Center.

YES, I know – almost every other local blog and food website has featured this cafe and yes, I am perhaps 2 years late, but better late than never, right? I finally decided to give this cafe a try, just to see what all the hype is about. One thing that distinguishes this cafe from the rest is its black exterior, which exudes a gloomy, do-not-enter kind of vibe which is a total contrast to its almost always packed with patrons and ‘full house’ interior. This is where the saying “do not judge a book by its cover” is apt. The inside felt welcoming and you get a sense of tranquility, this cafe provides a pleasant silence from the sounds of the city – the loud noises, cars everywhere.

Soft Shell Crab Burger, 26 Ringgit

20161101_141424.jpg

Okay, first up, notice how the crab meat was presented as though it came with its shell? Damn, that takes some skills.  I do not think its body will even be connected to its tentacles if I were to do it, bits and parts will literally be scattered everywhere. There was not a single bit of its shell anywhere within the burger, none. How amazeballs is that?

Anyways, this is a wholesome meal, not one of those you can add on a dessert with – no. It is very filling.  The burger was delicious! However, I would suggest to remove the egg from the burger, it sort of dilutes the crabs’ taste. If you are a real crabby fan, remove the egg and eat it separately. Just put the buns and the soft shell crab together and bite on it – yummmm!. Sooooooo niceeeee!  Although I would have loved the crab meat a little crunchier, its awesome the way it is. Not much flavors were added to the crab itself – so it retains its natural crabbiness. The buns comes with mayonnaise and some spices. The whole combination + crab was very yummy.  Do give this dish a go if you are a crab lover.

Turkish Style Eggs, 25 Ringgit

20161101_14142720161101_141436

Okay this was a flavorful dish. It consisted of an array of ingredients – chickpeas, eggs, chipolata, Greek yogurt, pistachio and pomodoro sauce. Some of those combinations may sound YUCKY, but trust me – it tasted so good. Visually, it may seem like a light dish and all, but nope – it really is filling. Sooo filling that I could not even finish the dish. To be able to enjoy this dish to its fullest, I suggest consuming it on an empty stomach.  Consuming it any other way would be a waste of money, time and taste.  Its a hearty and wholesome dish, a milky dish too due to the yogurt, so imagine that. If that does not enable you to reasonably foresee its fullest, I do not know what will, lol.

I would order this dish again, most definitely. No second thoughts whatsoever, but perhaps only if I am sharing it with another. In terms of $$$, I would rather order the soft shell crab burger.

Would I head here again?

Yea, I would. This cafe really did live up to all its hype. If I happen to be in town, near Jalan Galloway, would certainly drop by.
