Magic Tiffin Truck at Brickfields, KL – The viral food truck serving Indian food (pork free)

If you happen to frequent Tiktok, you may have stumbled upon videos of this food truck making its rounds. Recently, I had the privilege to venture out and pay this eatery a visit. Operating from evening hours onwards, precisely from 6 pm to 2 am, this food truck proves to be a good spot to wind down and relax after a busy and hectic day. Especially so since it is located by the riverside. It doesn’t get any more relaxing than that, lol.

By 7 pm, there would already be a long waiting line. If it is your unlucky day, all tables might also be fully occupied. If you do not mind the wait and the crowd, then by all means, drop by any time between 6 pm – 2 am. However, if patience is not your virtue, then you best visit when they just open for the day, between 6 pm – 6.45 pm.

Magic Tiffin Truck’s precise location is the open carpark, next to Sri Kandaswamy Temple and Sonali. While it is an open carpark, it unfortunately can only house limited number of vehicles. By 7 pm, it almost always is fully occupied. Worry not though as depending on the day, there’d be parking spots available nearby.

Keep in mind the temple situation here evening onwards. If you’ve been to this particular side of Brickfields, you’d notice that now, there are four Hindu temples along this NARROW stretch of road. On some weekdays and most weekends, it is a bloody mess. You’d have tourist buses from all over Malaysia taking up half the road, parked and blatantly ignoring the traffic jam its causing. No traffic control by any of the temples. So many cars, all heading into one area that does not have the capacity to accommodate it. Cars parked left, right and centre, at literally every corner, blocking the flow of traffic. Uggh. My only mistake was not using Waze and assuming things were how it used to be, that I could do a quick drive through as a shortcut into Petaling Street but nope, I ended up being stuck in a traffic jam that lasted 30 whole minutes. So, trust me, it could be a mess.

So, before you take a trip here, do check the traffic situation on Waze. If you notice traffic jam, driving into the area may not be the smartest thing to do. Instead, take the Monorail. From the Tun Sambanthan station, you can take a nice, slow walk by the riverside and reach the food truck in 8 – 10 minutes. If you still intend to drive here, do check the traffic situation first. There are also open carparks nearby. It may take a longer walk but hey, I’d take that option anyday rather than sitting idle in a car for 30 minutes.

Anyways, as much as I hated the traffic jam, it was because of that that I had the opportunity to visit Magic Tiffin Truck. I guess it ultimately worked out for me. I may not have been able to reach my intended destination – Petaling Street but I had a good dinner at Magic Tiffin Truck.

Menu

Idli Podi, RM 6

Oooo yes, this was a perfect dish for dinner. Firstly, it is a healthy option as Idli is generally made of fermented rice and lentil batter. Secondly, it fills up your stomach. The 2 pieces of idli were soft and fluffy, thick too, a good portion size. The ‘podi’, from what I can tell, is made out of grinded dhal, chili and etc. I’ve only eaten idli with curry prior to this and so, the podi was a new experience for me. I liked it. The texture was similar to a flavorful, somewhat spicy powder. I liked it as it provided the idli with an added ‘kick’. I don’t see it being served in other restaurants I’ve eaten idli at. So, I guess it is not a common offering. Well, all the more reason to visit this food truck again.

I’d be back for another visit. I liked the food and the ambiance. Customer service was good too. I am looking forward to trying their puttu and Podi Thosai next.

Address: In the open carpark along Lorong Scott. Next to Sri Kandaswamy Temple and Sonali.

Opening hours: Tuesdays to Sundays, 6 pm – 2 am.

Signing out now, Ciao.
